The biggest help on comprehension with reading is vocabulary building. I don't know what age/grade level of an app you are looking for, I do like the apps from the Education Store: Language builder, Sentence builder, Question builder, preposition builder, etc... Thanks Sherry, We do have many of the apps you mentioned. Her reading teacher

does alot of vocabulary building activities and worksheets too. Her scores on

the worksheets have improved dramatically since the beginning of the year. I

don't think it's because her vocabulary has grown that much but that she is

learning to take more time to think about the questions and possible answers. I

am quite surprised sometimes at the words she understands. It is much more than

I thought.

is almost 10. She is in 3rd grade but goes to a 2nd grade reading class.

She is very much on level in that class except for comprehension. Her

comprehension is fairly good and continually improving but I would like to see

her close that gap as much as possible. I think her teacher has been surprised

by her progress and the skills she has demonstrated so far. She didn't verbalize

it but I had a strong intuition that this teacher didn't think she should be in

her class at the beginning of the year. I think she is coming around now. : )

She says funny things from time to time that demonstrate understanding, although

in a very unique way. One day recently when she got home from school, she told

me she was so hungry her mouth was naked. lol.

There is a book, Drawing a Blank: Improving Comprehension for Readers on the Autism Spectrum by Hand, that is geared toward comprehension but it is written for children with autism. I do believe it would be very helpful for our kids too. It is on my wish list and I should just buy it now as it is a good price of 34.95. There is a link at this website that features a great informative webcast that I recommend you listen to it. I learned of this book from the podcast.
