Guest guest
Hi Group, Well,. I heard Shore (http://www.autismasperger.net/ ) speak Monday evening. He was great! And Kassi and Sondra, I mentioned your names when I introduced myself to him and he seemed very pleased that I knew of you both and smiled. Kassi, he mentioned you in his talk too. I really wanted to ut at least one of his books but I didn't have any money. He spoke at length about the importance of disclosure and self-advocacy, and it really hit home for me. I've been trying to talk to my 13 year old daughter about Autism, even just work it in to conversations, and she seems completely uninterested. I also found this fascinating: at the end of his talk, he showed his " notes " he'd used for the talk, and it was one page of pictures! Little pictures of a baby, some computer screens. It really brought that " Thinking in Pictures " thing home to me. Then yesterday when I brought my daughter to the LADDERS clinic to see the G.I. doc there, I saw one of Dr. Bauman's assistants ( who knows well.) and talked to him about the possibility of getting a mentor for my girl--an adult preferably female on the spectrum who could maybe spend some time with her and maybe help me help her. He mentioned someone and said he'd get in touch with her and let me know. I am in Massachusetts. Melinda
