Guest guest
Hi Beth, It must be very difficult for you raising your granddaughter, (with OCD on top of everything else !) She must be having a very hard time herself ,with her mom passing away. I'm so sorry! I too, have found that almost all of the doctors around here have never heard of PANDAS, and if they have, they don't believe it is a diagnosis. You are very lucky to have a pediatrician who will support you! My son is 8.He began with showing overnight symptoms the month before he turned 5. Keep in touch!! This came on suddenly this summer, although we go back to at least 2 different episodes when she was younger (and had strep). She's had the Strep A twice when younger, which I understand is one of the triggers for the PANDAS. We are unfortunately out there on our own doing this, with at present, thank God (and I really mean that, literally) with the help o our pediatrician (the neurologist we got in with doesn't believe in PANDAS (Texas Children's Hospital). I just pray she will continue with the antibiotics. She was so bad at the start and they helped tremendously. I really believe we need more a day. We're doing 500 Augmentin, twice a day. She is nine and in a gifted and talented class right now. She is actually my granddaughter. We are raising her after her mother's death 3 years ago. I am so worried about her future and us not being around to help her. We are in Houston. I so wish we could connect with some others with similar problems. How old is your son? My son has very similar symptoms as to what you describe. As a matter of fact, after re reading your post, they sound somewhat identical. My son is always afraid of saying or having done something wrong, amongst many other fears, he cannot be alone, does the stuffed animal barricade, etc. etc PANDAS can get worse if your child has been around with another child with strep, or even another sick child. .. The 504 is a plan that actually many children have. You can have a 504 for virtually anything. It allows accomodations, extra time, no loss of priviledges for homework not completed, etc.I think mentioned alot about the 504. My dd has one. My son has an IEP. An IEP is an Individualized Education Plan, whereas the team( meaning the school faculty and your self) all sit down and write up a special plan for your child with actual goals that must be completed within a certain time frame. This is not special ed but a special ed service. The child is also eligible for any accomodations necessary. I hope I could be of some help, if anything, just to know you are not alone!!!1 Hugs Judy
