Guest guest
My daughter is 11 and has recently "lost" or "stopped using" some letter sounds she could previously make - like the "r" and "y" sounds - during conversations. She can correct them when asked to most of the time but we are having to reteach the "r" sound in some instances (such as the word "apart"). The "y" sound she can correct automatically when brought to her attention. In these examples, these sounds have gone back to the way she said them prior to her speech intervention on them which has been years ago. Has anyone else seen this and could it be related to her being in puberty? Or, could it possibly be related to her verbal sentence lengths and conversations getting longer? Thanks!Laurie
Guest guest
Many teens mumble and Faith at 13 has also picked up the habit. I haven't noticed specific sounds like you indicate, but definately there has been some regression. I was more alarmed until I listened to the typical kids her age talking. I try to get her to speak more slowly and clearly at home. ette To: DownSyndromeInfoExchange From: laurie.maddux@...Date: Mon, 20 Jun 2011 08:13:59 -0500Subject: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Speech Question My daughter is 11 and has recently "lost" or "stopped using" some letter sounds she could previously make - like the "r" and "y" sounds - during conversations.
