Hi Debi,

My daughter has been taking Luvox/fluvoxamine for 5 years for fairly bad

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and anxiety. (She takes a lot because without it

she cries 24/7, has night terrors all night long, and is afraid to be in any

room of our own house without me.) She has the thickest red hair you've ever

seen, and long too. We can hardly get the brush through it if she forgets

to use conditioner. Of course, her doc does say that in his opinion he

prefers Luvox to other SSRI's because it has the least side effects.

Remember to consider that the anxiety you experience could be causing the

hair loss all by itself. Anxiety is a much more common cause of hair loss than

medication, not saying that the med ISN'T causing it, just that it's much

more commonly the anxiety.

Out of balance hormones are actually supposed to be the worst cause of

women's hair loss. If you have been having any problems with hormone levels or

taking any supplements that affect hormone levels, that could do it.

Sondra, I'm sorry I didn't explain myself better! When you stop taking

a SSRI you are to cut back on the dosage slowly or " taper off " to

prevent significant side-effects. Because I take it for anxiety, I was

making a joke that I'd better avoid the boards so I don't say

something ugly because I'm fearing the withdrawls.

Sandy, thanks for the info. I read on the zoloft website that alopecia

is a potential side effect, though not very common. It will be

interesting to see if my hair makes a comeback as I taper off.
