Hello,

I am a mother of identical twin daughters who are 8 and they are showing signs

of OCD (possible tourettes as well..one blinks out of control and has a high

pitch squeal at times while the other clears throat and constantly worries and

asks if something is ok to eat, etc..). I myself have OCD and have never been

diagnosed with tourettes but do suspect I have a mild form of it as well (I have

always had the urge to claw or pick at myself under anxious times when the

thoughts are really bad). My OCD really started around the age of 8 or 9 and I

am now 34. My fears were mostly of throwing up and I would ask my parents

repetitive questions regarding if I were sick. I also have panic attacks. I was

in the gifted class and my children are very intelligent as well. I tend to

think of perfectionism and they are showing those signs. I was diagnosed with

OCD at the age of 11. I have tried very hard not to show my OCD in front of my

children (extremely difficult) and wonder just how much is caused by

environment/genetics. I do not take medication for my OCD instead I use positive

affirmation CD's at night as well as CBT.

I came to this group looking for support as well as help. I have not yet taken

my daughters to the Dr. but plan to if their symptoms become out of control. I

am working on CBT with them personally since I know first hand what helps and

what is going on in their brains. I must say that finding this group has brought

me peace of mind knowing that there are others facing the same or similar

issues. It is very interesting for me to have identical twins because it really

brings home the fact that OCD is caused by the brain and is not their fault nor

mine. I struggled with feelings of guilt my whole life due to OCD.

Thank you all in advance for your help and suggestions in the future.
