Guest guest
I'm here in NY and you can't even get the kids into early intervention services without the updated vaccinations. Most preschools won't even take kids without the shots. We just had a big think a few weeks ago on our local news about a child in preschool having the measles and not having the vaccination. A woman in his dr's office caught it from him in the waiting room. That'll mean the schools will be even stricter now. Jen Vaccine exemption/New York I have a friend on another group who is trying to enroll her dd in kindergarten without the chicken pox vaccine (she has all the others) and is being told that there is NO way to get her admitted. I know that's not true, but it's been a long time since I lived in NY. Anyone in NY have success getting their child enrolled without vaccines? How? Thanks! Guest guest
I've heard of it being done, but don't know how. The chicken pox vaccine is one I'll never understand anyway...if you get it when you're a kid you're fine, if you never caught it as a kid but woops live virus vaccine floating around (Im pretty sure it is) then you can get really sick...especially if germs love you. But you know, we can't have our own immune systems work at all anymore... Guest guest
I don't know NY's specific laws, but we use a religious exemption in my state. 2 of my 3 girls have had chicken pox. I would suggest trying to find someone with it and getting child exposed, then you've got medical proof there is no need. I'm hoping my 3 yr old will contract it before long, seems to be easier when they're young. HTH, Debi
Guest guest
NY does have religious exemption laws, and she tried that, but they told her that her religion doesn't " qualify. " She doesn't know how they even know her religion or her beliefs, but they are requesting some type of proof. Which she found has been called unconstitutional in other states by the supreme court, but doesn't really want to go that far. Good idea about her actually catching the chicken pox! My son had it really young too, so he never needed the vaccine either. Guest guest
This would have been a problem for me so I am glad they didn't have chicken pox vaccines when I was going to school. I am a rare case.I am naturally immune. My doctor discovered this when I was pregnant with my daughter. Since I had been exposed to chicken pox several times and never contracted they were worried I would get it while pregnant. A test concluded I was naturally immune. In this kind of a case, I wonder what they would do today? Guest guest
- I think you would qualify for a medical exemption. I believe all 50 states have them. Guest guest
If you're immune, and they can prove it with a test, then you don't have to get the shot. My son had chicken pox when he was 8 months old (caught it from a kid in daycare who had gotten the vaccine and then passed it along to 6 other kids.) so he doesn't need to have the vaccine. They can do a titer test instead. Amnesty > > This would have been a problem for me so I am glad they didn't have chicken > pox vaccines when I was going to school.
