Hi Sue:

I have been taking Ultracet (Tramadol HCI) for almost

four years. Started out with one tablet three times a

day, and am now at two tablets three times a day, as

needed for pain. What it does for me is to take the

edge off the pain, it does not take it away entirely,

but makes it tolerable so that I can go through my

day. I take it when the pain is such that it is

limiting what I can do, and if I don't need it, I

don't take it. Most days, I think I take four

tablets, sometimes more, sometimes less, but that is

the average. I have not had any problems with it and

no side effects. I hope that it helps you too.

p.s. don't know what the HCI means - lol

Hi, Sue.

I haven't taken Ultram, but, yes, tramadol hydrochloride is the chemical

name. HCl (not HCI) = hydrogen chloride/hydrochloric acid.

I tried it and couldn't get it to do anything for me. I did better with Tylenol

APF.

hi, tramadol worked well for me for a long time (Workers comp injury)

but it has since not worked as well for my RA. Hydrocodone works for

me right now. Cassy

Sue:

My dr. prescribed me the same thing to hold me over until I see the

Rheumy. I have to say that it doesn't do anything for my pain. I am

not on any meds though for RA yet. I think it is a pretty strong pill

though because you can definitely tell you took a drug. It just

doesn't take the pain away for me, and I don't consider my pain SEVERE

as of yet. Just really really uncomfortable at this point. I had not

heard of it before either when they prescribed it for me. I think if

you take it before bed it will knock you out enough so you can sleep.

Bobbi

PS I personally cannot take 4 of them in one day. The most I have

taken is twice in one day. I would be knocked out if I took it four

times! LOL

Tramadal is my godsend. I take two, three times a day and my rheum. says

that's okay for quite a while. I have never had a single side effect from it

and it really does take the edge off. It doesn't wipe the pain out like the

stronger pills, but I'm just looking to get along and don't ever expect to be

100% pain free. If the tramadal isn't doing enough for me, I take two Extra

Strength Tylenol with it, which my rheum. says is okay occasionally. You don't

want to do it too much if you're on methotrexate or another drug that's hard on

your liver. Tramadal is what got me off Norco.

Hi Sue: This is . I will tell you what I know about Ultram which is

the brand name. It is basically used for stiffness. I take it and it does help

with that. Does not really help me with pain. Taking it 4 X a day can make

you dizzy, so I never take that much of it. It has been used for arthritis

for a while.

Hope I helped a little.

Sincerely,

I have been taking Tramadol in the form of Ultracet for a couple of months now.

I like it as a pain releiver I do like to take my last one before i go to bed

at night , it helps me sleep, yet does not seem to make me sleepy during the day.

Make sure you eat alittle bit when you take it ,or it can give a bit of a dizzy

feeling,

The main reason my rhummy and i chose this drug is it si supposed to be easy

on the kidneys, since i have trouble with mine, as my internest say they

(lidneys) may run the marathan but will finish next to last, I did have kidney

failure from vioxx, so i am very carefull about what pain or anti-inflamatories

i take, also if you need just s a little more help but don;t want to take

another presc pill ypu can takr tyenol

My dr. gave me this drug in the beginning because I was in so much pain. I told

her I didn't want any type of narcotic/codeine..etc.. They make me ill and I

didn't want any thing that was possibly addictive. I use it only at night for a

really good night sleep. And it doesn't make you sleepy during the day as you

said. I think it's probably a pretty safe drug. And it is generic for ultracet.
