Chile reports 2nd swine flu death amid 890 cases

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - Chilean officials say a 56-year-old man has died from the

swine flu, becoming South America's second death due to the flu strain.

The Health Ministry's regional head Bernardo Martorell says the unidentified man

died on Thursday in the southern city of Osorno.

He says test results on Sunday confirmed that swine flu was the cause of death.

Martorell says the man had a history of respiratory problems.

Thirty-seven-year-old plumber Vera became South America's first swine

flu death last week when he died near the same Chilean city.

The country has confirmed 890 cases of the virus, many times more than any other

country on the continent.
