Guest guest
No matter what age your child is, public policy affects EVERY individual w/Ds..we need to stand together to make a difference for them. If your child w/Ds can advocate on his/her own behalf, wonderful.. have them go for it. If not, if we(parent's don't speak up for them, who will? please pass the message from NDSS (below) on to your local support groups. It really does take all of us to make good policy happen. The policy rep position will not be difficult or time-consuming, won't cost you anything, and can be done from home;-) So, please, consider helping out with this initiative.thank youKathyR---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, Jul 14, 2011 at 1:55 PMSubject: NDSS Policy RepresentativesTo: Lee , mwill@..., rsabiandss@... Thank you for your interest and participation in the NDSS Policy Representatives webinar. Please be in touch with us as we begin to launch this program. We look forward to working with each of you to bring legislative advocacy to the members of your affiliate. We will host another webinar on this topic next week. Please share this information with anyone you know that may be interested: Are you interested in connecting your affiliate group to important policy initiatives for people with Down syndrome and their families such as access to the general education curriculum? Or being employed and receiving employment supports? Or having savings? People with Down syndrome and their families often face unfair barriers when it comes to getting a quality education, appropriate healthcare and employment. The NDSS National Policy Center works everyday to break down these barriers, but without the partnership and participation of affiliate groups and family members across the country, this work cannot be done. NDSS is launching a new initiative to expand the resources available to affiliate groups to be involved in legislative advocacy. As part of this initiative, NDSS is seeking volunteers to become Policy Representatives. Representatives will be appointed by each interested affiliate group’s board and will work closely with NDSS policy staff. Representatives will: Participate in three exclusive NDSS policy conference calls annually Receive NDSS policy alerts and information, and disseminate the information to affiliate members Report on policy matters to the affiliate group boardProvide information for the affiliate group newsletter, from information provided by the Policy Center Alert the NDSS National Policy Center to issues of concern to the affiliate groupTo learn more, we encourage you to attend an upcoming webinar: NDSS Policy Representatives: Connecting Your Affiliate to National Public Policy Advocacy.
