Guest guest
My daughter used Delsym while on zoloft. I called the psychiatrist and she scolded me and told me to ask this kind of question to the pharmacist. So now I do. My daughter was given a medication to stop vomiting and I was concerned about the effect of this with zoloft. I asked the pediatrician but somehow was not assured enough. I called the pharamist at Walgreens and he was very helpful in reassuring me that it would be safe. Pam > > DD is on 10mg of Floxetine (the generic Prozac) and has a cough. I was giving her Delsym, but while looking for other options (since the Delsym doesn't seem to be doing anything) I read that I should talk w/ her dr before using it. Her psychiatrist is on vacation, and I'll check with the ped in the morning, but I thought I'd see if anyone here has information. > > This is the website that says not to use Delsym until you check: > > http://www.drugs.com/mtm/delsym.html > > Thanks! >
Guest guest
We called our pharmacist and they told us to call our Dr. because it might be a problem since the cough meds increase the serotonin levels. We're still playing phone tag with our pediatrician. I'm also going to try the Psychiatrist's number and see if his substitute will call me back. > > > > DD is on 10mg of Floxetine (the generic Prozac) and has a cough. Guest guest
Thanks. I picked up some Mucinex when I got an inhaler prescription filled from the ped. We're also using a humidifier in her bedroom and it seems to be helping. We also found that a teaspoon of honey helps stop the coughing. Finally a " medicine " that she likes! LOL I do plan on talking with the psychiatrist when he gets back in mid Dec about not warning me. I know I should read up on interactions, but the names are confusing since they don't always use the same form/name of the drug. I think it would be nice if he gave a general list of DO NOT USE stuff at the time of prescribing the meds. Cough suppressants and motrin are common enough that the heads up would have been nice. Guest guest
If her head is stuffy and it's a post nasal drip causing the cough, plain Dimetapp (not dextromethorphan) might help. I had the same problem when Matt was on Prozac. The vaporizer is good. Vaporub helps clear the nose a little. Mucinex may be antiproductive if the cough is caused by a post nasal drip - mucinex loosens up congestion so that it can be coughed up. At night, a dose of Benadryl might help dry things up a bit too. Good luck. Bonnie >
Guest guest
Have you tried shower soothers. You put them in the shower, let the water run on them, and helps mucous drain. My son is also on Prozac (for many years). Have recently discovered Sinus Wash. Can't get kids to use though. I use daily. Son uses Mucinex every day along with Prozac. Basically, read about Seratonin Syndrome. Every drug guide says different things and unless your doctor very involved, you make the ultimate decision - especially with over the counters. Hope this helps some. Phyllis
Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestion to look at Serotonin Syndrome. It explained well the problems with adding some OTC meds to Prozac. We haven't tried the shower soothers with her, but she does like the Vicks plug in vapor things in her room at night. They seem to help quite a bit. > > Have you tried shower soothers.
