Guest guest
Just did, good luck! Sounds like a beautiful program.Tara Sent from my iPad Hi all I've been a member of this board for over 3 years and have gained a lot from everyone's experiences here – though I don't post often. My daughter Maya has down syndrome – she is 3 years old. I post today to ask if you would be kind enough to vote for a program that is offered at her day care center. They are in the running for a $100,000 prize for Intergenerational Programs. Maya's day care (Mt. Kisco Child Care Center) shares a building with a program for 'older adults' called My Second Home. Together they have a program called JEWEL (Joining Elders With Early Learners). This program brings kids from the day care (infants to preschoolers) to visit weekly with the 'grandmas and grandpas' from the Adult Day program and do arts and crafts, read stories and play games together. It's a wonderful program and one of the reasons I chose the center when my son was born. They have accepted Maya into their infant room and she has continued to blossom in the toddler room. This is not a special needs day care center – it cares for mostly `typical' children, but they have been so supportive in our journey with Maya. The JEWEL program is a semi-finalist for a $100,000 prize for intergenerational programs. Four of the finalists will be chosen by the committee - one finalist is chosen by popular vote. Finalists get $5,000 and the chance for the $100,000 prize. We need your vote! We're behind by 1,000 votes right now. Thanks for voting – it means the world to us! Voting ends Sunday 5/15 at midnight. Feel free to pass on the link if you feel appropriate. Guest guest
Thanks everyone! I am really touched by all the votes and comments. Yes - you can vote again today and again tomorrow. If you have a 'smartphone' with web access, you can vote from that too. We're less than 900 votes behind the leader - I'm trying to pull out all the stops before tomorrow at midnight. Thanks again!
