Guest guest
I tried to search and see if anyone had discussed this before but to no avail. I have run into the wall of menstration.I bought a book last week called Teaching Children with Down Syndrome about their bodies boundaries and sexuality, but was a day late and a dollar short.Don't get me wrong, its a wonderful book and I recommend it to anyone reading this, but I just bought it and my 14 year old hit her period Wednesday night. So,here it is,the two major road blocks I am having are a.)getting a pad small enough(she is 4 ft 7 and wears a little girls size 12).Panty liners are just the right length but dont cover the flow so well without changing very, very frequently b.)teaching her to wipe properly. I do have a plan of action, albeit a controversial one,to head this off in the future. She has doctors appt a day after I expect her to cease her period to be put on the birth control,Seasonique. The only other mother in my area that I know with a daughter around her age with DS,put her daughter on a hormone suppressant.I have chosen not to do so,because of the possible complications. So with Seasonique, she will have a " planned " period 4 times a year...
