Guest guest
I'm not planning on seeing it either, though maybe on DVD. From all that I have seen it looks like the typical "let's overload their sense with loud noise and more action on the screen at one time than ever occurs in reality so they don't notice a shoddy script, bad character development and poor plot." I've read reviews that say the first few minutes of this movie had more action and intensity than all of the Star Wars movies had in their whole length, assuming they mean individual movies and not the whole series. Since the creator and his wife are gone, the series is probably going to go straight down the tubes to the lowest common denominator as the new owners chase profits over content. " I didn't hear whether or not they were going to do a series. TNG still had Roddenberry's influence, so that turned out well. " Enterprise " did not have any of his influence, and I think that was one of the reasons it was such a flop. That and the fact that the " first " enterprise was more advanced than Kirk's ship. And even though that was explained at one point, I still think the whole series was cheapened by not having the first Enterprise being the most primative and bare bones space ship of them all. As for this movie, I don't like when they have actors playing the part of other actors because you have to suspend belief throughout the entire movie. I think I'd be thinking " He doesn't look like Kirk. " " Spock wouldn't have said that. " " y's accent is wrong. " Etc. Maybe kids who have never seen the original series might get into this movie, but I doubt I can. There are certain movies where the previews turn me off. This was one of them, and to date, I have never liked a movie where the preview turned me off. Administrator

" Uh, , you are assuming quite a bit there. Cub has seen -- and continues to watch -- the original Star Trek series along with the many franchises. He despises the series with Bakula because of all the errors and leaps in logic in an attempt to make it somehow gel with the original series while being true to some of the somewhat related other series. He attended the latest Star Trek movie on Friday afternoon and stated that while there were minor things that had excellent and logical explanations (ie. Spock's youthfulness at a time when he allegedly -- according to the old series -- would have been an adult already) that allow the viewer to suspend disbelief without effort. He also said that y arrives very late in the movie and the accent is correct. So when all is said and done, the movie stands up well beside the original series while straddling the better received Star Trek franchises that came afterwards. Guest guest
Hi; somewhat belated reply; was thinking about if I was going to the new Start Treck Movie or not, decided not to see it , it follows a different 'time line,' Personally, I prefer following ONE thread in whatever Sci Fi series i am readng or watching etc. I 'grew up' with The Original Series and prefer novels etc that are consistent with it's characterization, world view etc. This does not meant that I would not read some novels dealing with diferent realisties, universes etc, just that Stat Treck has a certain 'meaning' to me. renaisanzelady > > " Since the creator and his wife are gone, the series is probably going to go straight down the tubes to the lowest common denominator as the new owners chase profits over content.
