This is very true. Back before I started my own business, I knew there was discrimination against short guys. At one place I was a good worker and all that, but they held off seriously offering me promotions because I was much shorter than the other men, and some of the women, working there and management was worried they wouldn't listen to me. When they got serious about the promotion, I had had my fill of the tall folks nonsense and left, though I said it was for other reasons.

Even in my own business I have to put up with it. Many times I have seen potential partners and fellow investors look at me and write me off because I barely came up to their shoulders. Others would talk to me like I wouldn't understand the simple business principles or like they expected me to be dictated to because they were taller.

Most fun though is around women. I know some will say its sexist of me to say this, but the truth is that most women will look at me with a glance and not look back, though they will ogle tall guys. In groups, the body language, including flirting, is all aimed at tall guys while the social dynamic squeeze me out of the circle until I am literally outside of it.

But really, this is all nonsense. Just because someone is tall or good looking doesn't mean that they are competent. It just means their genes said keep growing when mine said stop. I've seen plenty of tall, outgoing morons get ahead while shorter, competent men get left behind.

You can even see this in elections. The vast majority of the time, the taller candidate will win. The US has only had one short President and that was in the early 1800's, I think it was. Again, just because a man is tall doesn't me he is worth a damn.

Study finds tall people at top of wages ladder

Sun May 17, 12:43 AM

MELBOURNE (AFP) - Tall people earn higher wages than their vertically-challenged

counterparts while being obese does not mean a slimmed-down pay packet,

according to a new study in Australia.

The researchers found a strong link between wages and height, particularly for

men, with each additional 10 centimetres (four inches) of height adding three

percent to hourly wages.

The " height premium " was two percent per 10 centimetres for women, researchers

from the University of Sydney and Canberra's Australian National University

(ANU) found.

They calculated that every five centimetres (two inches) above the average

height of 178 centimentres (5 feet 10 inches) boosted a male's wages by the

equivalent of an extra year's experience in the labour force.

" This result holds constant across a number of other factors that also affect

wages, such as age, race, family background, experience and education, " said ANU

professor Leigh.

The researchers, who examined health and income data from almost 20,000

Australians, also found that being overweight did not mean a lighter pay packet

-- in contrast to previous studies.

" We were surprised to find that there seemed to be no wage penalty to being

overweight or obese in the Australian labour market, " Leigh said.

" This is in contrast with previous studies that used older data from the United

States and Germany and found that people with higher (body mass index) earned

lower wages. "

He said one explanation may be that because fat Australians were now in the

majority, they did not face discrimination in the workplace.

(how certain women perceive tallness does not make them seem very intellegent.)Strangely enough, even people whom one would think would know better are sometimes affected by height:A supervisor at work said she 'did not know who she felt was more intimidating, our manager, becausehe is tall, or HIS boss, who has a shaved head and a tatoo.' This supervisor has managed a couple of different stores, and seems to have a wide ranging experience with people.Initially I found our manager a bit intimidating for a different reason; he uses formal words a great deal. The bald fellow with the tatoo didn't intimidate me. wrote; excerpted; But really, this is all nonsense.
