Guest guest
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia is taking security measures as a precaution against the possibility tension over North Korea could escalate into nuclear war, news agencies quoted officials as saying on Wednesday. Interfax quoted an unnamed security source as saying a stand-off triggered by Pyongyang's nuclear test on Monday could affect the security of Russia's far eastern regions, which border North Korea. "The need has emerged for an appropriate package of precautionary measures," the source said. "We are not talking about stepping up military efforts but rather about measures in case a military conflict, perhaps with the use of nuclear weapons, flares up on the Korean Peninsula," he added. The official did not elaborate further. North Korea has responded to international condemnation of its nuclear test and a threat of new U.N. sanctions by saying it is no longer bound by an armistice signed with South Korea at the end of the 1950-53 Korean War. http://in.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idINIndia-39913120090527 Dinner Made Easy Newsletter - Simple Meal Ideas for Your Family. Guest guest
" MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia is taking security measures as a precaution against the possibility tension over North Korea could escalate into nuclear war, news agencies quoted officials as saying on Wednesday. " I think this is a veiled threat against the US. Russia knows North Korea has no designs against it. It is, after all, a good bet that much of its knowledge regarding nuclear technology came from Russia. What Russia will do is use any US military action in North Korea as an excuse to close its borders and create a new cold war in which its people will be once more subjugated by communism. That's my bet anyway. Administrator
Guest guest
I don't think it is a threat again the US. However, Russia could be as much under threat as South Korea or China because it does have a short shared border with NK and it does have a major port in range of NK missiles. I can see them also being worried about NK because if it falls, someone is going to have to move in to take control. Whoever that is will change the balance of power in the region and that might go against Russia's interests. That's a complicate situation I don't really want to get into right now. If Russia did help NK built nuclear weapons, that's nothing compared to the problem of Iran which we know they helped with its nuclear program. Russia also faces a much more real threat from Iran than NK since Iran has missile that can reach Moscow while NK doesn't. For that matter, if Iran uses its nukes on anyone, Russia will bear part of the blame for it since it helped them so much. In a message dated 5/28/2009 12:05:33 A.M.
