Hi - Yes, I've been reading about PANDAS in my research, and she has not

been sick beyond the common cold lately. Thanks for the information though.

Hi

I just want to ask if your daughter has been sick recently with strep throat or

an ear infection. A strep infection can trigger a specific OCD disorder known as

PANDAS and I just wanted you to be aware of it.

>

> Hi,

> I joined last night, and as I mentioned in my initial information, I'm not

sure I'm being paranoid or proactive. My daughter is 6. She disclosed her

" biggest secret " to me last night about her compulsive behaviors. The main one

is that she spins around one way a certain number of times, then does it the

other way the same number of times, and she feels she has to do this in certain

places in our house (for example as she walks past the couch.) She also

explained that sometimes she touches the doorknob and feels she has to keep

rubbing it. I asked her what happened if she doesn't, she said, " I have to go

back and do it " and that " my body makes me do it. " She said she's been hiding it

because she knows it's weird.

> I'm more concerned about her family history on both sides of the family. My

husband, her father, has clinical depression; his mother has generalized anxiety

and her mother was severely mentally ill- not sure of her diagnosis. My brother

has bipolar disorder, our paternal grandmother had some sort of mental illness

with paranoid features (never got the full story), and we have a paternal cousin

with some sort of severe anxiety disorder- not sure of the whole story there

either.

> To boot, my husband and I are getting ready to separate- I have no doubt that

living with us, as much as we've (well, I've) tried to keep the arguments/

tension away from her, she's perceptive enough to know that home is not a fun

place to be- and an upcoming separation isn't going to help things.

> Feel free to tell me I'm over-reacting and wish me well. But I don't want to

turn a blind eye if there is something to be concerned about- I want to do what

I can to help her.

> Thanks-

And I want to add..even if she did not show symptoms of a strep infection,

it does not mean she did not have an asymptomatic strep infection. It

happened to Beth Maloney's son. (Read Saving Sammy) and I believe it is

what has happened in my daughter's case. (waiting for ASO titer to come

back)

PLEASE have a blood test done even if it causes your child a LOT of anxiety.

To think I might have helped my daughter 3 years ago when this started if I

had just done that to rule it out makes me crazy. Please don't make the

same mistake.
