It's great to hear such a wonderful success story... I'm very happy for

your son!

You mentioned liquid Prozac... was your son put on 20mg. of liquid

Prozac right away or was it done incrementally? I have heard of people

taking liquid Prozac and starting in very low dosages and increasing

incrementally. I have been wondering if that would help my daughter. Her

OCD and depression was so much better on Prozac (well, actually it was

the generic, Fluoxetine), but even with 10 mg., she couldn't sleep even

though the doctor tried tranquilizers and Lunesta.

Any info you could provide about liquid Prozac would be greatly appreciated.

He was put on 20 mg capsules of Prozac. When he went to college in England,

they only had liquid Prozac and it did not work for him. I don't know if

they have it here in the US because he preferred the capsules. He has

always requested " real " Prozac in stead of the generic because it seemed to

work better for him.

We just started our daughter on liquid Fluoxetine. She was supposed to start on

5 mg, but due to a misunderstanding we started on 10mg. When we gave it to her

in the evening she couldn't sleep, so we moved it up a few hours each day and

she is now taking it in the morning. She is sleeping better with the time

change. It's been 2 weeks now and she is doing a lot better and we're seeing a

decrease in her anxiety levels. Things that were 10's before, are now 5. We're

keeping her on 10mg for another week, and then will increase by 1mg every 3-4

days if we need to.

She says it tastes horrible, but we give her a few small pieces of chocolate to

take before and after. She says it helps coat her throat so the taste doesn't

stay.

My DD couldn't stand the taste of the liquid Prozac so it was good

motivation for her to learn to swallow pills!

Thanks, if my daughter ever tries Prozac again, I'll try to make sure

it's the real thing, not the generic.
