Hi everyone,

I have not been on this site for some time and feel I have missed some important

information, am scrolling back through postings here. Can someone give me a link

or tell me where to look to find out about this " Cunningham (blood) test? " for

PANDAS?  I had assumed (obviously incorrectly!) that the diagnosis of PANDAS vs.

non-PANDAS OCD only made a difference at ONSET of the OCD-- in terms of

treatment options.  Is it possible that strep/reaction to initial strep

(untreated by antibiotics) can continue to make OCD worse 12 years into the

OCD?  Our daughter has never been treated with antibiotics for OCD and she has

received intensive care from many physicians over the years, yet so many things

from the PANDAS profile ring true here.

Can I ask anyone who knows something else?-- Is it true that with PANDAS you

have a " waxing and waning " experience of OCD?  A psychiatrist told us that long

ago and because our daughter's OCD NEVER goes down, but stays constant, she said

that it was unlikely our daughter had the PANDAS variety.  And yet our daughter

did have contact with strep as a young child, she did have pneumonia and her MRI

(brain) did show evidence of possible earlier strep infection.

So can someone suggest a file(s) I could read to update on this to see if there

are other treatment options we should be looking at?

Thanks,

Your daughter could have PANDAS. What the doctor told you about the constant

OCD not being PANDAS is not true. Go to these two web sites for tons of info.

www.latitudes.org (PANDAS section) and

www.pandasnetwork.org

If you are dealing with PANDAS, antibiotics asap would be highly recommended.

Many children with PANDAS do NOT get the " typical " symptoms with strep so they

are often never even tested for it and go for long periods of time with

untrerated strep, as the OCD and/or tics worsen.

Dr. K. thought my son probably had PANDAS for 11 years, maybe longer. There are

so many exceptions to this disease. Dr.K.'s test is the Prednisone boost for 5

days. If you could get your pediatrician to do this for your son, and if you see

a significane change in him, then PANDAS is suspected.
