The CDC estimates that 36,000 people die per year from the regular flu.

When the death rate from H1N1 swine flu exceeds two deaths per state per day, it

means that the death rate from the new flu will have exceeded the death rate

from the regular flu.

Put another way, there needs to be 100 deaths per day in the US for the H1N1 to

pass the regular flu's per day toll.
