WHO: Experts dismiss claim swine flu came from lab

The World Health Organization says virus experts have dismissed the theory that

a new type of swine flu which has infected some 6,500 people around the world

may have originated in a laboratory.

WHO's flu chief Keiji Fukuda said the global health agency alerted experts over

the weekend to an Australian researcher's claims that the so-called A(H1N1)

virus could have been mistakenly released from a lab.

Scientists pored over the evidence for several days before concluding that it

was more likely the new virus emerged naturally, as is common with influenza.
