Guest guest
,. It sounds like he is probably having alot of stress at school and taking it out on you!! He has been on the Zoloft since last October and no increases for at least 6 months. They have not diagnosed him with a mood disorder (wouldn't surprise me-runs rampant through our families). The Risperdal was increased to twice a day around the time school started but I am not sure of the date. He is starting to get angry on the way to school now as well. As soon as we leave the house. He wakes up in a good mood. Yet he says he loves school and wants to go to school. He does say alot thqt he misses me (when he isn't raging). > > Hi , > > Mine are always worse during the school year also because of the stress, anxiety, and trying to hold it together in the classroom in front of their peers. > When they come home they feel safe. They can let go with you. Of course being sick can add to his behaviors. > My daughter used to do that behavior in the car, kick the seat, throw things at me,unbuckle, scream ,etc. What I did was pull over and tell her we would sit there all day until she stopped because it was dangerous to drive like that. > Do you think maybe the zoloft could be making him hyper manic? That happens with my 8yr old. He can't take any SSRI'S for that reason. Is his diagnosis ocd only? I'm sorry, I'm sure it was posted before. > Just some quick thoughts here. > > Hang in there!!!! > > Hugs > judy > > > > ____________ _________ _________ __ > From: shellspace71 <shellspace71@ ...> > To: @ yahoogroups. com > Sent: Wednesday, October 21, 2009 10:00:50 PM > Subject: have no idea what is going on with my 6 yr old-help? > > > My 6 yr old, OCD, Anxiety and PDD-NOS/sendory interation disorder son is getting worse. Since school started he has come home and meltedown almost every day.I have no idea if his behavior is him trying to be a brat, or anxiety or something else. He hits, kicks, throws thing, has ALOT of anger. Of course it is saved only for me. Today, he was sitting at supper saying he was going to wet his pants, on purpose, I ignored this thinking it was attention getting, he was saying it on purpose, then he actually did it-right in the chair-on purpose! Never done that before. I took him in his room, told him to change then stay in his room. Yesterday was full of him attacking me, hitting me while driving, tearing my car roof, etc. I swear this has to be caused by school. I can't think of anything else that has changed. It is wearing me down emotionally and I spent a good part of last night and today crying. I have begged his home based therpaist (who I like more now) > for suggestions and help, thinking it is something I am doing or maybe something I need to do. I am burned out. I get no help from my husband. He just gets mad if he get awakened by his son's tantrums. No help though. he works third shift and his sleep is of ultimate importance. The therapist is going to the school next week to observe. I am burned out. I see my therapist when I can but the co pay is sooo high I can afford about once a month. I am going to be starting an ASD group when they get a meeting time. > My son has been sick this past month but is getting over it and I just don't understand his behavior. Any thoughts? He is on Zoloft, 50mg, risperdal.25 mg in th eAm and .25mg after school and meletonin at bedtime. I am beside myself. I have no idea how to help him. There is no residential treatment for him I was told tonight-state funding cuts. > > > > > >

Guest guest
We used to order lots of social products through a company called Linguisystems. They have games, flash cards, etc. They also have qualified counselors who you can speak with directly who will lead you in the direction of products that will help. Guest guest
Hi . I'm sorry I haven't been on in awhile and am just catching up and have been reading your emails. There are a number of good books that may be helpful on Asperger's -- Tony Atwood's most recent book probably being the best on the subject, in my opinion -- but one book I would absolutely read is called " Bridging the Gap " . It's actually about a child with Nonverbal Learning Disorder, written by his mother who is an OT. It is the best book I've read for getting inside the head of a child experiencing social communication, sensory and learning issues to understand how the atypical processing of information affects perception and outward behaviour. My 12 year old son, although high functioning, has coped with social and learning issues for all of his life and more recently has been introduced to the trials of OCD. I read Bridging the Gap when my son was about 7 and it has always been my model for how I approach each challenge my son faces -- seeing things through his eyes to try and understand his sometimes odd and contrarian behaviour. No doubt your son will benefit from professional support, but this book is quite inspirational and I turn to it whenever I need a boost to continue on. I hope this helps. The pdoc said the PDD is " a smidge " only(?) but impairs social understqnding. He didn't give me anything to work on.. Just said I would have to esplain social cues that come naturally to most of us. Said he is very high functioning. The therapist-I don't really know as this therapist is new, as to what he is doing except that trying to get my son to use coping skills and manage anger are a top priority. > > > I've been following your posts for a while and I just wanted to ask what > are working on to address the PDD/nos?
