Are the stomachaches new? I can't recall what you have said before, but I had a

bad reaction to Prozac many years ago--nausea, vomiting, and rapidly spreading

itchy rash. Turns out I am allergic to Prozac. If the stomacheaches are new or

significantly worse, you many want to contact the pdoc or a pharmacist to ask if

it could be med-related. If not, this may not be the cause. just a thought.

hoping you find an answer soon.

I would investigate the stomache issue. I had stomache issues for years

that were not helped by Zantac or any of the other meds, but I went on

Nexium and was " cured. " I stayed on it for about 4 mos. to let my

stomach heal and haven't had another issue. I know that it could be in

her head, but I'd want to try other avenues as well before disregarding it.

Sorry it's so difficult! I've had a child that doesn't and can relate

to the stress this causes. Once her anxiety was under control, she ate

just fine.

Hi ,

Thanks for the concern. The tummy aches have been going on a long time, likely

years, but have gotten much more frequent the last 6 months especially.

But good to know about the Prozac!

Hmmm, thanks, I'll ask her pdoc about Nexium.

Keep a diary of what she eats and note if there is a pattern - i.e., discomfort

1-2 hrs after eating. If this is a regular occurrence with specific foods

(dairy for example), you might be looking at a allergy or intolerance. If there

is a pattern at all to the pain, your doctor will want to know about it and it

will help with a diagnosis. Some kids do have gastritis and ulcers due to

chronic stress and anxiety. There are drugs that can be prescribed other than

Zantac.

All that said, it's not at all unusual to have tummy aches with anxiety -

there's a physiological reason for it that some experience more than others. My

first hunch in reading your post was that it may well be anxiety, but get it

checked out anyway. In the least, it it'll make it easier to convince your dd

that it's anxiety and not illness. My 9yr old dd is going through a similar

thing. To top it off, my dd is definitely lactose intolerant. Using a food

diary and noting other things has helped me see the difference.

Prozac can have some side effects that do go away after a while (2 weeks or so).

Prozac 10mg might be a lot to start off with - maybe the doc can lower it to 5mg

and then go up? Prozac can be a little activating at first too and this may

increase the anxiety and the tummy aches.

I'm sure the pdoc will want you to have her checked out medically and the

medical doctor will implicate her meds and anxiety. At least you will have both

areas considered.

Best wishes,

Bonnie

Doesn't sound like it's the Prozac then. At least, that's good news.

My daughter who has ocd used to have stomach aches that were caused from not

using the bathroom frequently enough. Going on a schedule is what got her

back to normal.
