Yesterday was full of him attacking me, hitting me while driving, tearing my car roof, etc. I swear this has to be caused by school. I can't think of anything else that has changed. It is wearing me down emotionally and I spent a good part of last night and today crying. Guest guest
Well, how do you know your child has this and A. it is not caused by some other disorder already there and B. your kid isn't just being naughty? What is the difference? I am in tears daily with this child. He is mean ( he used to at least have loving moments with me, they are getting fewer)physically agressive, negative to the extreme, seems to of course always want his way (although nothing ever seems to make him happy even if he does get his way). He is tearful but it doesn't last. He is SO angry so much. Everything is stupid, ugly bad, etc. There is nothing you can do to prevent a meltdown. I can't explain it other than he is just mean and never content. I can see some OCD in what he does but this right now is larger. I don't know what is fueling this-he won't talk. I am ready to leave. Even my mother said I need a vacation (like that is even possible-who would watch him?). Of course I get the brunt of this behavior. Nothing has changed in the way I relate to him (that I know of) but boy, dealing with this will quickly errode any sense of peace or calmness in a parents life. > > > > > > Hi , > > > > > > Mine are always worse during the school year also because of the stress, anxiety, and trying to hold it together in the classroom in front of their peers. > > > When they come home they feel safe. Guest guest
Hi , My daughter is now almost 13 and was diagnosed with this from different doctors on and off since age 6. It is very difficult to differentiate between this and many other disorders as I have noted that several doctors have given my dd this diangosis as well as PDD, OCD, ADHD, Bipolar, etc, etc It is usually given when the " normal " diagnosis of say, for instance, ADHD, goes way beyond the behaviors. Kids with ADHD display with behaviors like, obstinacy, arguing with adults, stubborness, deliberately annoying others. touchy, and easily annoyed by others, blaming others for there behvaior, spiteful, vindictive, negativism, temper outbursts, hostile, defiance, lack of response to discipline and so forth . lasting at least 6 months. However if the quality of these characteristics is more striking than in similar ADHD, ODD would be given instead. It all depends on the degree of behavior, The behaviors have to occur more frequently than is typically observed in a child of a comparable age and developmental level. Hope this helps a little hugs Judy Subject: Re: have no idea what is going on with my 6 yr old-help?-could this be ODD/CD??? Guest guest
, Have you read " The Explosive Child " by Ross Greene? I found that somewhat helpful when my daughter was younger. She seemed to be born with this behavior, and I went through my worse with her from ages 6-9 , than she started to " get a little better " if you will. We are all here for you!! Hang in there!!! Guest guest
Hi , I know that sometimes it seems hard to apply the rules, but I did like the way the book concentrated on " pretty much only dealing with the big things " , like no injuring themselves or others, no hitting, destroying property, etc, etc (which my Jessie did on a daily basis) It helped me with the day to day constant bad behavior. At one point with my girl, she would rage for 6 hours a day. I had HAD it before I read the book ,and I took everything out of her room, bed, curtains, posters, and all, and made her earn back every single item one by one. That was her reward for behaving, earning back what she had lost. She used to be horrendous, and whether or not it was the ODD, OCD, bipolar, ADHD, or whatever she was diagnosed with I had a huge behavioral problem with her on my hands. She is almost 13 and still has her issues, but I never thought she would be as good as she is now. I thought I was going to have to put her in a residential program, she was so difficult. There was't a day that went by where I didn'y want to leave and never come back. I have read your posts and your son sounds like my dd. My 8 yr old son has behavior issues similar to that also but she was massively extreme. She didn't respond to punishments unless they were huge.He is nothing like her. She just never gave up. where he will stop after a while. Don't let anyone tell you this is due to your parenting, especially the school. I have a 14 yr old who has always been like an angel.Go figure~ Hugs Judy I wish you luck and remember you are not alone.
Guest guest
Thank you! I told my mom that my son had been tryin gto improve and do the things his therapist suggests and that he had only kicked me twice that day and she said " ONLY?? " . But for him, I saw him start to kick then stop so it WAS an improvement-something was going on in his head. He is trying but it just gets so draining and hard to see the silver lining and small steps when you are constantly at war (and I try to pick my battles but living in a constant state of negativity from him where NOTHING is ever right drains you). Yesterday he started marching instead of kciking (though he did lsoe it twice). This is better than an hour of me restraining him. But he also had on the floor tantrums at the art museum, etc and I just left instead of playing into them (o.k. I didn't leave him, but he didn't know I didn't go). I will look at hte book again monday and try really hard to gain some perspective on this. Thanks you so much-you have given me a little hope-and boy do I need it right now. > > Hi , > > I know that sometimes it seems hard to apply the rules, but I did like the way the book concentrated on " pretty much only dealing with the big things " , like no injuring themselves or others, no hitting, destroying property, etc, etc (which my Jessie did on a daily basis) > > It helped me with the day to day constant bad behavior. > I have a 14 yr old who has always been like an angel.Go figure~ > > Hugs > Judy > > I wish you luck and remember you are not alone. > > > >
Guest guest
The Ross Greene methodology has been helpful for me too. Of course being sick can add to his behaviors. > > > > > My daughter used to do that behavior in the car, kick the seat, throw things at me,unbuckle, scream ,etc. What I did was pull over and tell her we would sit there all day until she stopped because it was dangerous to drive like that. > > > > > Do you think maybe the zoloft could be making him hyper manic? That happens with my 8yr old. He can't take any SSRI'S for that reason. Is his diagnosis ocd only? I'm sorry, I'm sure it was posted before. > > > > > Just some quick thoughts here. > > > > > > > > > > Hang in there!!!! > > > > > > > > > > Hugs > > > > > judy > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ____________ _________ _________ __ > > > > > From: shellspace71 <shellspace71@ > > > > > > To: @ yahoogroups. com > > > > > Sent: Wednesday, October 21, 2009 10:00:50 PM > > > > > Subject: have no idea what is going on with my 6 yr old-help? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My 6 yr old, OCD, Anxiety and PDD-NOS/sendory interation disorder son is getting worse. Since school started he has come home and meltedown almost every day.I have no idea if his behavior is him trying to be a brat, or anxiety or something else. He hits, kicks, throws thing, has ALOT of anger. Of course it is saved only for me. Today, he was sitting at supper saying he was going to wet his pants, on purpose, I ignored this thinking it was attention getting, he was saying it on purpose, then he actually did it-right in the chair-on purpose! Never done that before. I took him in his room, told him to change then stay in his room. Yesterday was full of him attacking me, hitting me while driving, tearing my car roof, etc. I swear this has to be caused by school. I can't think of anything else that has changed. It is wearing me down emotionally and I spent a good part of last night and today crying. I have begged his home based therpaist (who I like > > more > > > now) > > > > > for suggestions and help, thinking it is something I am doing or maybe something I need to do. I am burned out. I get no help from my husband. He just gets mad if he get awakened by his son's tantrums. No help though. he works third shift and his sleep is of ultimate importance. The therapist is going to the school next week to observe. I am burned out. I see my therapist when I can but the co pay is sooo high I can afford about once a month. I am going to be starting an ASD group when they get a meeting time. > > > > > My son has been sick this past month but is getting over it and I just don't understand his behavior. Any thoughts? He is on Zoloft, 50mg, risperdal.25 mg in th eAm and .25mg after school and meletonin at bedtime. I am beside myself. I have no idea how to help him. There is no residential treatment for him I was told tonight-state funding cuts. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
