There are some good sight reader programs out there that are quite expensive.

The strength behind them is that they build upon an early program and proceed

with adding words and skills in a very sequential manner whereas at our local

school, I believe that this is done in a very random manner with no particular

plan. I do not know how far a child can go with these programs nor do I know if

the cost and hoped for benefits are worth it. Any thoughts on this?

I just started a blog recently & one of the main topics is early learning. My

3.5 year is now reading at a kindergarten to grade 1 level. She is mainly sight

reading, but knows the alphabet & sound & is starting to be able to figure out

words - not quite reading phonetically yet, but has a beginning understanding

of the concept. Here is a link to my blog where I have some videos of her

reading from age 2 to almost 3.5. I am hoping to blog on some of the different

early reading programs soon.
