Please pray for one of the leadership team of our local Ds group.  Her name is Lori and last week they discovered she had a leaky heart valve.  It is a shocker because she is young, maybe early 40’s.  She had surgery on Friday to replace it, and they told her things were expected to go fairly smoothly, but things went horribly wrong.  They could not restart her heart.  She has been on a sort of life support with an artificial pump called a VAD helping her heart since then, and things keep getting worse.  She has gone into something called DIC where your blood stops clotting, and had to be taken back to surgery to remove blood around her heart.  They left her chest open and have moved her to a better hospital.  Her pupils are not reacting to light, which is a bad sign, but they are holding out hope. Even though I am not as active in our Ds group as I used to be, it is still quite a shock to our little community and Lori and her family could use your prayers.  Her husband Adam is devastated and they have two young girls, Hannah with Ds.  Adam is going to talk to their girls today about the possibility of mommy not coming home. Was created to follow Lori updates Continued prayer is definitely needed for Lori and Adam and the girls. Here are the latest updates: August 17, 2010Lori has had ups and downs. DIC last night that threatened her life but she recovered. We are particularly concerned about her brain because her pupils don't react to light and are very dilated, and she has no cough reflex. I am praying for God to help me keep hope.testSetonAugust 17, 2010We left for Seton Main Hospital around noon today. The facility is better suited to deal with the VAD and the multi organ failure. Sister Gertrude spent arranged to have the priest give the sacrament of the sick to help Lori heal. It brought back memories of 6 years ago when Lori and I watched as the baptized little Hannah the night before she had esophageal atresia surgery. I vividly remember the intense pain that only a mother and father can share when their child is seriously ill. Now I am faced with having the most difficult conversation of my life. It is time for me to start preparing the girls. I plan to tell Emma tomorrow that her Mommy is sicker than we first thought. I ask all of you to continue to pray that Lori can recover. Love Adam
