Autism charity says bankrupt Bruno's owes $103,000

Bankrupt Bruno's Supermarkets LLC owes Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health

Center about $103,000 that was collected during the Glenwood Holiday Pecan

fundraising sale late last year, Glenwood said today.

The grocery stores collected the money from the sale of fundraising items on

consignment from November to December, but the money was not paid to Glenwood.

The loss has created a " financial hole " for programs for people affected by

autism, the Birmingham center said.

on Willis, a bankruptcy attorney who is representing Glenwood, said the

nonprofit might not ever see all its fundraising proceeds.

" More than likely, Glenwood will be treated just like any other unsecured

creditor, " he said in a prepared statement.

Glenwood said the loss nearly eliminates the total funds raised in 2008 by its

32nd Annual Holiday Pecan Sale. The center counts on the sale's revenue to help

fund services for children and adults with autism.

Birmingham-based Bruno's filed for bankruptcy in February. Southern Family

Markets is purchasing certain assets of Bruno's and plans to continue operating

31 stores. The remaining 25 stores are being liquidated.
