Guest guest
I think that I read somewhere that it can be. A doctor once told me that OCD simply is exponential anxiety in any form. Our therapist treats any irrational, fear, phobia, obsession with the same approach. Personally, I question any anxiety is very irrational and interferes with normal function. Guest guest
In my reading, I have read that girls with OCD are more at risk for eating disorders. I worry about my dd9 because her appetite has been wavering and she's lost 5 pounds the last month and a half. It seems to be related to her worries...she has to be completely distracted (like playing a game) in order to eat. She worries about her stomach hurting (which it does most the time), she worries about vomiting (which is very infrequent and only for medical reasons), and she admitted to the therapist that she's " afraid " of getting fat. She gets " grossed out " very easily, and can't eat when words or images get stuck in her brain that are gross. Subject: eating disorders and OCD? Guest guest
Becky, this info at OCD Chicago seems to cover it well. A long link, I hope it works. If not, the page leading to article is the 2nd link; look over to the left on that page: http://www.ocdchicago.org/index.php/experts-perspectives/article/ocd_and_eating_\ disorders_untangling_the_diagnostic_web/# http://www.ocdchicago.org/index.php/news/events/ > > Just wondering if anyone knew if eating disorders are a form of OCD. Guest guest
Hi Becky, The Chicago link seems to address this very well. I can tell you from personal experience, I had a bit of OCD as a child (it flared again with pregnancy and perimenopause), Anorexia as a teen, and GAD as an adult. All forms of anxiety, manifesting different ways at different ages, its seems. From my understanding, anorexia nervosa is on the ocd spectrum.
