My mother taught grade school for over 20 years. She said that boys might get mad at each other and have a tussle, but then get over it. Granted there were some exceptions, boys that held grudges, but they were uncommon.

Girls on the other hand, were very nasty to each other. A common thing was to be Best Friends Forever with a girl, learn all of her secrets and when they had a falling out, tell all of those secrets to the other girls. Then there was the social manipulation, peer pressure, etc. I remember my last year in a coed school that it was the girls who pressured each other into doing things like raiding the liquor cabinets at people's homes at parties and other things the guys didn't do.

My experience was different. I spent five years at an all male military school and it wasn't bad. I actually think it helped me actually make it through high school because there were rules against bullying, everyone wore uniforms so there was no real competition about clothes as status, and there were no girls for the guys to abuse each other over.

I had the misfortune of attending an all girls high school for a very short time. I found the girls not very nice at all, very b*tchy; I couldn't survive long in such an environment and ended up very ill, then transferred to the local high school that was both male and female pupils, which although wasn't fantastic was better than an all girl school - so yeah, I remember how bad some females can be.
