I'm usually easy going about things--I joke about the OCD at my house and don't

get offended by things people say but what you saw at the high school is just

wrong.? It is hard enough to be a kid, let alone a kid with a mental disorder.?

I would talk to someone if I were you and let them know that for people who live

it, that category just isn't funny or appropriate.? Kelley in NV

I agree, that doesn't send the right message at all, and think about how a kid

would feel if they have a mental disorder and saw that! My dd9 just asked me

last night in a really sad timid voice if she was retarded because she has

OCD...apparently they had to have a talk in class because the word was being

used to put people down.. It's a tough enough world, like you said.

Hi ,

I'm a guidance counselor in MA (OCD daughter now 21) and that would be

completely horrific and offensive at my school.

bring it to the attention of the administration ( or have a parent of a

" typical " kid do it or your son's counselor or favorite teacher)

it's hard enough to fight stigma.

the " most likely to .. " section from last spring. You know, most likely to

succeed, etc. Then one said, most likely to have a mental disorder -- like it

was just some type of joke. I was so taken back by that and was frankly quite

appalled! Am I too sensitive, or would you go talk to someone and get this

category changed?

I don't think you are too sensitive. That's terrible. I think complaining to

someone about it would be quite reasonable.

I agree with the others, I would bring it to the attention of the

administration. We have to fight stigma where we can. Would you ever see most

likely to have diabetes, cancer?
