Guest guest
Thanks, Chris. My dd is at the stage where she wants any help she can get. Remember though, she missed the last 3 years of high school and she really wants to be successful. I think she told him about being bipolar and having severe anxiety. Advocating for herself was not something she has ever done.. That is something she worked on at both Remuda and in after care to give her the best chance of being successful. So, I am so glad to see she is using what she learned. I am glad is doing well! Did he register with disability services?Stormy ________________________________ To: Sent: Thursday, September 10, 2009 6:00:51 PM Subject: Re: accommodating teacher at college Glad she's doing well and liking it. And so glad she's got such a great teacher, understanding mental illness! Good for her for advocating for herself too, not sure if my would have gone to him to let him know. And he's always refused, refused, to take a psych class! He's also enjoying college, not homesick a bit. He said his OCD isn't any better (I wondered if it'd ease up away from home); he wasn't " sure " if it was worse or the same. " might be worse " SIGH. But this is all new, he's getting adjusted, so if it is spiking a bit, hopefully will calm back down. > > My dd called from college and is so far doing well. I hope it lasts! She is taking a Psych class and was so excited because her college professor told them if anyone has a mental illness to come talk to him after class. So, she did. He told her if she is ever having a problem to come talk to him. He also told her that if she is struggling to shoot him an e-mail and he will work with her to adjust deadlines, etc. She was really happy with how he handled things. This wasn't even part of the disability services which she will also have, but just something he told any students with a mental illness. I thought that was pretty cool. Guest guest
I am glad is doing well! Did he register with disability services? No, he didn't. We had a 504 Plan for him at the community college those 2 years but he never used it. So he doesn't feel he needs to mention his disabilities at Chapel Hill Univ. Now - there were times I told him he could use the 504 as he did have some tough nights sometimes but he just refused and still managed A's. " Tough nights " meaning OCD bothering him so much he couldn't do his work until way, way, late at night. Sigh! > > Thanks, Chris. My dd is at the stage where she wants any help she can get.
