Guest guest
Hi everyone, Xanax is a short acting benzodiazepine (tranquilizer/muscle relaxant/or sleep aid) and is not generally intended to be taken long-term. It is very addicting and most doctors, at least in this area, have been very careful and hesitant to prescibe Xanax. Doses available are 0.25 mgs, 0.5 mgs, 1 mg, and 2 mg. So 1 mg, if taken more than once a day is something that should be discussed with your doctor. Actually, it was the drug of choice to give for those who have panic attacks years ago when I was nursing, but that may have changed. Valium is a little longer acting benzodiazepine. It is given easier than Xanax. It is available by tablet or IV (only available in a clinic or hospital setting). I'm getting tired ... I believe oral doses are 5 mgs or 10 mgs. Klonopin is an even longer acting benzodiazepine, even more readily given. I believe the doses available are 0.5 mgs, 1 mg, and 2 mg. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong. All benzodiazepines are addictive, some more than others. Ativan is another benzodiazepine that is available. Before I sound too anti-benzodiazepine, my husband has an old, severe back injury and has numbness on the side of his leg, and more often over the years, is down flat with severe back pain. His doctor asks if he is ready for a MRI, but must be willing to go with recommendations if he has the test. He won't. I know why, because he wonders " Who will take care of Barbara? She can't take care of me. " I argue with him, but get nowhere. He takes a 0.5 mg tablet of Klonopin at night and it helps him get to sleep. Both of us have back problems and have different needs as far as comfort goes. Hope this helps. Hope this brain fogged lady got it right, LOL! Peace, Barbara
