Guest guest
Hi, all, just thought I'd update real quick on . For anyone who doesn't know us, my daughter is 15 and was diagnosed in Aug. 08 at age 14. Remember I was waiting for those results from the psych testing?? Well, let's just say I wasn't thrilled with the results! The good news is that it didn't come up with ADD, or ADHD, or Aspergers; however, the report repeatedly described her lack of attention, at least to the testing. It basically painted a terrible picture of my daughter, so bad that when the school counselor got the report, she made comments like " she should work within her limits " and " we shouldn't push her beyond what she's capable of " . The report basically confirmed what we already knew; that she has OCD (the report called it OCD tendencies), Major Depressive Disorder, is prone to suicidal thoughts, and has generalized anxiety. All of which we already knew and all can be attributed to the OCD. The psychologist even said didn't answer all the questions or sometimes didn't seem to understand the question. The report also said she was resistant to conventional therapy because she didn't like to talk about personal things (ya think?), so her new therapist knows to just get down to brass tacks. It did say her persistence level on tasks was above even advanced levels, meaning she would work at a task until it was completed, she was just very slow at it. Again, we've lived with this child her whole life; she gives " obsessive slowness " a new meaning! They also said she had a spelling ability level of grade 12.5 (she's in ninth grade). On her first progress report at school, she brought home 4 A's and 3 B's; she always has her homework done, wants to volunteer at a nursing home this summer, joined FCCLA and the after-school theatre club, all on her own, with no prodding from us. YET, her OCD symptoms at home are worse. Her gravel fear is gone (yeah!!), but her cleaning supply fear is back (Booo!) Her psychiatrist wants to switch meds, but I am soooooo reluctant because she's doing so well at school. I think she's really letting go at home and just lets the OCD literally take over her mind. I'm thinking the pressure of maintaining at school is causing the problems at home. Luckily, her new therapist has now completed the school observation, so I will be setting up appointments in the hopes this will help her. The one thing I've done is condense the psych testing report to ONLY what's important and left out most of the " bad " stuff for people like the principal and others. The ONLY people I am giving the full report to is the school counselor (and I already regret that) and her new therapist and her psychiatrist. I was just really mad that the report made sound like she practically needed to be institutionalized! To me, it's only worth was as a " ruling out " measure (and I still question the ADD thing!) Ok, enough venting for now...
