Guest guest
Hi , My dd, Bre has bad thought OCD. She came to me when she was 12 and told me she had thoughts of killing herself, by slitting her wrists. That is when she was diagnosed with ocd, called pure-O. She had thoughts of killing her brother, stabbing me and all kinds of horrible thoughts. Her therapist used ERP, exposure and response prevention therapy, starting out with the less scary thoughts and moving on to the hard ones. We ended up sitting in her office with a plastic knife, painted with red paint and Bre held it while I sat next to her! She was so afraid of her thoughts and so afraid of acting on them. She " knew " she didn't really want to act them out and was scared of them. She would tell me she loves me and loves life. I told her they were just ocd thoughts but she still had to do her homework with the therapist to combat them. She even wrote a horrible scrip how she murdered her whole family and read it over and over. I know this sounds horrible but it did help her and she now knows how to fight her bad thoughts. She was in therapy for a year!. Now she is med free, in community college, still living at home, and living a normal life. She has friends and drives and sings worship songs with her guitar at church! It is a rough road in the beginning but with a good ocd therapist and alot of prayers,(mainly for me to have patience) there is HOPE. Hang in there! Sandy S.
