Grandmother Kills Grandson Before Taking Own Life

A Chesapeake grandmother reportedly took the life of her autistic

grandson and then killed herself. Police responded to a report of an

unresponsive person in the 3100 block of Ida Street on Friday,

February 27. When officers arrived on scene they found 19 year-old,

Terrell Stepney, with irregular breathing. Terrell was taken to

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Police also located an unresponsive female in the home. She was later

identified as Constance Stepney, age 55. Mrs. Stepney was pronounced

dead on scene. After an extensive investigation, police determined

that Mrs. Stepney gave Terrell, her autistic grandson, an unknown

quantity of a prescription medication and also consumed this mixture

herself resulting in her death.

Terrell was transported to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center where

he was placed on life support. On Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 5:45

PM Terrell died as a result of the consumption of the medication.

This is the first homicide of 2009 for the City of Chesapeake.
