Guest guest
My 6 yr old, OCD, Sensory integration disorder and possible PDD-NOS son will be starting 1st grade on the 8th. This is his first experience with all day anything. The most he has been away from me is on weekends when I work but then he is with grandma or dad. He has been in half day school for preschool and Kindergarten. He NEEDS routine and this all day stuff is really going to throw him -I think. For the past 2 years of school we were home by noon-then lunch and tv , then out to the playground or outside to get much needed heavy work and sensory input (and to work off some built up anxiety). Then home for an early supper, then out again till 6:30, then tv, bath , book s and bed! I have no idea what the hoomework will be like, but he will be getting home at 3:45pm and will be in bed by 8pm so it leaves us little time to get that much needed outside time. Plus no time to do the special things we have always done( parks, orchard in the fall, zoo, etc). I work all weekend so that is not an option. I just want this to go as well as possible for him but haven't a clue what to expect or how to meet his needs now. Also the doc moved his Risperdal to the morning with his Zoloft but it doesn't seem to have any effect good or bad.
