Guest guest
Glad you are having better bedtimes . Can make all the difference to everyone's sanity! Whatever is working I would continue it, until such time that you have other answers. Sounds like you are pretty clear about not getting enmeshed in the ritual aspect. Sorry to hear about the food and weight concerns and the teasing. So tough for girls, can be such a focus. The more neutral and balanced you can be about food the better I think. It can be OCD thought based and not real at all, if you know what I mean. Our son went through some body image stuff with the OCD, and food as well. It is one area I would accomodate to make sure he ate. Hope the quieter bedtimes continue. Warmly, Barb > > Hello All, > > Thank you so much for all the response to my post about bedtime, sent very late on Friday night after a frustrating evening! :-) You advice and information was appreciated, and most especially thanks for the support of those who understand our struggle. > > We found more info on melatonin, and plan to ask her ped doc tomorrow during a recheck. The past two nights, I've simply sat beside her bed helping her to imagine other things, stroking her face, and last night she went to bed easier and earlier than ever. I know, it's a temporary fix and I have to be careful not to become part of her ritual, but we all had to have a break from these angry, fitful nights...at least until we find something to help. > > I'm still concerned about her lack of appetite, tho. She lost another pound last week. And she complained about her stomach aching this morning, the first time since school started...ugh, it may be a long school year! She admitted to the therapist last week that she's afraid of being fat (was teased over the summer about her thighs at the YMCA program; even though she USED to have a little bit of a tummy, she was by no means overweight...she's looking more and more skinny to me now and not in the healthy way). I know we have to be careful about eating disorders. She's also broke down crying in class twice so far this year, which is very unusual for her at this age (although she did it some in second grade...now she's in fourth). > > So I know we have many hurdles to overcome, and for now at least letting us all drift off to sleep at night is a blessing! :-) > > > > >
