Guest guest
Yes we are going through the same thing. My son pulls out teeth also that aren't ready. In a rage puts his foot throuh the drywall. He is so out of control. You need a psychologist and psychiatrist. The psychiatris does meds but he psychologist will help handle him at home and school. Guest guest
My son has had an alphabet soup of diagnoses including Tourettes. I have seen the behavior in him that you describe. What has helped is Tenex, mood stabilizers. CBT with ERP has been the only thing that has helped his anxiety and obsessive thinking. Guest guest
Micah is on Tenex for TS, and Lexapro for OCD, he still has tics, still has days when he gets stuck from OCD, but things are much better for him. Guest guest
Bonnie, I was wondering if you've tried ERP for tic control. I read an article from the recent TS symposium saying they had found that ERP can help control tics. tsa-usa.org/research/TSA5thSciSympos_LS_ed_rev9_4_09.pdf Did you read it, and have you tried it? The Lithium in my opinion (at least it's my hunch) would not have been necessary had we tried ERP earlier. He had issues with anxiety even while on Lithium and it wasn't until we did ERP that he began to improve. He's been fairly stable now a while now. The plan is to remove the Seroquel (pdoc says Vistaril may help him at night until he adjusts), then look at removing Lithium as his blood levels are less than therapeutic and he's doing fine. Our pdoc won't order stimulants for Matt at this point and I am OK with that for now as we are making do. Matt son also seems very sensitive to meds and so we're moving really slowly. We tried Clonidine once and it helped him sleep, but it didn't help the tics like Tenex has. Bonnie

Guest guest
We are currently using Risperdal for moods and anger and clonidine at bedtime for tics and sleep. He has a ton of anxiety. We did try Celexa and he seemed angry. He also has atention issues have you ever used attention meds or do the anxiety meds help the attention? Having comorbid symptoms is a rouh one to get the right meds. Guest guest
We cannot treat our son's ADHD either, because the meds make the tics worse. It's ridiculous! My son cannot even take SSRI's because they make the ADHD unbearable. He is on tenex and that is making his bad thoughts worse, but helping the tics. It's a catch 22 with all the meds.I guess we have to decide which is worse, the tics, the bad thoughts, or the hyperness beyond belief. There has to be an answer somewhere!!!!! Guest guest
If and when you decide to try would you let me know how it goes? Have not tired it for tics, but was giving it some thought, the little ones are no big deal, but he has a few that offend others, so thought learning to control them in public might help him socially. Once we get beyond the anxiety I will think about it again, but I want him to be off any meds that may cause him to tic (AP's) first. It's so hard sometimes to know what the root of the problem is without doing one thing at a time. His tics generally aren't bad (thought they are noticeable). As far as the OCD, it's more obsessional thinking and little coompulsion. Definitely something to think about! Thank you - I'll do the reading you suggested Bonnie

Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, My psychologist wants to help my son learn how to relax and breathe before doing ERP.He doesn't have any coping skills. He is listening to tapes to try to calm himself down through breathing techniques, than he is going to start the ERP. I am praying this will work!! Thanks Hugs Judy ________________________________ To: Sent: Tuesday, September 29, 2009 6:46:13 PM Subject: Re: OCD and Tourette's Judy - Doing ERP too? > > We cannot treat our son's ADHD either, because the meds make the tics worse. Guest guest
I hope it works too. We started small and worked our way up. I am amazed at what he can do now. There are some good books out there that perhaps he can read beforehand. My son was shocked to realize how the author knew him! Good luck, Bonnie > > > > We cannot treat our son's ADHD either, because the meds make the tics worse. It's ridiculous!
