Guest guest
Hi Stormy, This is my problem exactly!!Several doctors have told me that even though she appears to have ADHD, they feel it is part of the bipolar. Than I was told that the bipolar and OCD can look like two disorders when in reality it is Aspergers. She had to be hospitalized twice for what they called a manic reaction, but was it really that? I don't know. It stopped on it's own. I just wish they had a brain scan that would determine what she has. I would be running to the place!!!!!!!!!!! One reason why I question all of her diagnosises is because she has been on several mood stabilizers that did nothing for her, but when we take her zoloft away, she cannot function. I know you are not suppossed to go on a reaction to a medication as a diagnosis, but that is one thing that is very clear cut for my dd. Thanks again!! Guest guest
Boy, you make a very good point there. That is the opposite reaction of my dd. She goes manic on SSRIs and absolutely needs mood stabilizers. That would almost make me really doubt bipolar and look more towards Aspergers for sure for your dd. Guest guest
One more thing. The psychologist at Remuda said they very often take the kids who were diagnosed bipolar before they came there off their mood stabilizers to see if they really are bipolar. She said, normally, nothing happens and they believe they were misdiagnosed to start with. These kids often really have Aspergers. That wasn't the case for my dd, she went outright manic on them. Guest guest
This is something I had noticed. My daughter was actually better after we took her off of the mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics I would think if she were truly bipolar she would have gotten worse. She has cycles of depression about 4 times a year where she will rage etc, but she used to do this all day every day and that was when she got the bp diagnosis. My son cannot take SSRI's. He goes nuts on them.He has to take an anti-psychotic and tenex for his OCD. He is actually much more likely to be bipolar than her.
