Hi Kelley,

This was something I wasn't quite sure of . My daughter has had the diagnosis of

PDD from 3 other doctors previously, now at the eval they said , " No " . I'm

wondering which diangosis the school will go with.

I don't even know what to say when I'm asked about her diangosis. She has been

diangosed with everything at one time or another. depending on the doc.

Thanks for responding to my post

Boy, that is hard.? was originally diagnosed, at the age of six, with GAD

but we traded that in for OCD when it came out several months later.? After

that, we really didn't get any other diagnosis until the Asperger's.? We always

attributed her behavior to the OCD, all the while thinking there might be other

things going on.? I know that here in Nevada, when the school places a child in

Special Education, they go with the diagnosis that causes the most difficulties

for the student.? The accommodations need to address any area the student

struggles with even if there is no diagnosis to go with it once a referal has

been made.? Is the school doing any testing of its own? ?Have you asked your

doctor is Asperger's is a possibility?? I did have to ask for my daughter to be

tested for it.? We all pretty much suspected it but did not make it official

until she was in eighth grade.? I hope I anwered your question.? I don't think I

was much help but I'll try to help if I can!? Kelley in NV

My dd was originally diangosed GAD, and than OCD also when she was 5.Than it

kept switching to Bipolar,ADHD, than ODD, PDD-NOS,than back to different

combinations of all  the diagnosis's. When I sit down and really study  all of

this, I realize there is no way she has ALL of these diagnosis's. Asperger's

would cover all of it.(especially after her neuropsych was done and I saw it in

writing that she basically doesn't understand the secondary meaning of

anything.)

Her school has tested her. I had to get an attorney for them to do testing. They

did a Woodcock and a speech and language eval. The woodcock they

did showed she was fine but their speech and language showed a very low score on

pragmatic language, so then I insisted on outside testing which revealed what I

posted earlier.

My dd's current psychiatrist only sees her for 15 minutes a month and feels her

diagnosis is OCD and Bipolar. When she was hospitalized for 33 days they said

she had OCD, Bipolar, and PDD,than they threw in that rather than PDD, it could

be Aspergers, but they could not say for sure because she had not had testing

done.

My ex husband works with kids with Mental Retardation and Aspergers, and he has

said ever since Jessie was a baby that she had Aspergers. She never made eye

contact and still doesn't(only with us) and she is in 8th grade. She also still

does stimming movements.

I just don't understand how this doctor can say she has no autism at all. I just

want answers that make sense. It has been a puzzle for so long. This doctor also

said that she was too social and to " animated " to have aspergers, but yet could

not explain all the other issues.

Sorry for going on and on, just looking for advice from those of you that have a

child similiar to mine!

I don't know Judy. My dd actually really does have Asperger's, bipolar, severe

anxiety which manifests as OCD, social phobia, GAD. We do not think she has

ADHD. The psychologist says she had a lot of attention problems but she thought

those were from the Aspergers or the bipolar when she is manic. I guess all the

related anxiety issues could be from both the Aspergers and the bipolar. I know

that when my dd was diagnosed with Aspergers the psychologist in residential

told me that a lot of kids are misdiagnosed bipolar who really have Aspergers,

especially girls. Unfortunately, they believed my dd really had both. They found

this out for sure when they tried to remove one of her mood stabilizers and she

went manic on them. Good luck, Stormy

I can't believe all the things you have been through just to get an answer only

to not get any answers!? I'm so sorry for you!? In response to your doctor's

comment that your daughter can't have Asperger's because she is too

animated-- talks to people and visits with them and is more concerned about

her looks than her older sister who does not have Asperger's.? dresses

very stylishly and does her make up and all that, just like a normal kid.? She

also talks to other girls on the phone and has had two boyfriends.? Not all

symptoms fit all kids.? Like said in an earlier post, " if you have met one

kid with Asperger's, you've met one kid with Asperger's. " ? I know in my town, it

is hard to find a doctor--is there someone else you can go to and get yet

another evaluation?? There are a lot of books about Asperger's out there.? If I

were you, I'd start reading them!? My heart goes out? to you and I hope you find

answers soon.? Kelley in NV

I agree with Kelley. Judy, have you read the Asperger Plus Child by T.

Lynn? Great book. It deals with Aspergers plus 7 comorbid diagnoses. Stormy

Hi ,

My dd is like yours. she always does her hair, makeup, etc, has to have on

stylish clothes, etc, etc, and this evaluator said kids with any form of autism

do not do this.

I have read many books on this that say otherwise. I have read these kids are

dying to fit in but have a hard time with the social aspects of doing it. They

CAN do it. My dd has tons of friends and boyfriends too.( more than my 14 yr old

nt daughter)

I'm going to suggest the school evaluate her further with a doctor of my choice.

It looks like I'll have to file a mediation(((UGH!!)))

thanks so much for your help

Hugs

Judy
