Guest guest
This morning I noticed a Blue Jay was on the ground with what looked like an injured wing. It was still really active, but it couldn't fly. So, I caught it, put it in a shoebox and took it to the vet to get checked out. I just got off of the phone with them and they couldn't help it and had to euthenize it. Its right wing had been bitten nearly off, leaving exposed bone and a nasty open wound. It was also missing many tail feathers. It had to have been one of the stray cats. You see, a bunch of bleeding heart morons feed several colonies of the things around the city. One feeding place is about 300 years from here. The number of cats has been increasing, and I'm sure they are feral cats because they are scared of people. So, these twits feed the cats then the cats come through the neighborhoods eating birds and squirrels. One of the colonies, one about a mile from here, has cats full of Feline HIV and Lukemia. Several cats in a nearby subdivision have died from Feline HIV contracted from that colony. Still, those people know about the infection and its spread, but they keep feeding them anyway. The vet suggested that I call Animal Control. Maybe they can set traps to catch the cats, or maybe I can set my own cage trap to get them. Animal Control might take the cats or they might not. Feral cats are almost impossible to place and there are so many of them. If I wasn't afraid of getting arrested, I'd take the cats I catch to one of the colonies well away from here, but I'd be the one to get caught charged. Maybe there is some cat repellent that won't bother the birds? Anyway, if this was happening at my country place, I'd just shoot them. Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make dinner for $10 or less.
