Guest guest
Hi , I think it is great you are looking to do this. I started up a group two years ago and now have a list of about 50 families, with 8-10 people coming regularily to meetings. Since no one has responded yet, I just thought I'd suggest you might contact your local children's hospital, local doctors who treat OCD, and any mental health support groups or community centres, as there may be families looking for something. Are there any local groups advertised online that you might contact, and the possibility to advertise yourself through them? We are lucky enough to have a site that advertises all local mental health resources, and one can apply to advertise on it, for free. I met one person online from this group, one from a general based support group, and had a contact who had run an OCD support group before who also had some names. Once we started up the group and advertised it, we had many, many people coming and or contacting for more information, and even referrals from the hospitals. Kind of an " if you build it they will come " situation. Just wanted to encourage your efforts. Barb > > Just wondering if any of you who live in the greater Washington DC area might be interested in forming an in-person support group for parents/kids/families dealing with OCD. I love this listserve and it is a big help, but my family and I would also be interested in meeting others locally who are dealing with the challenges of OCD in their daily lives. > > For any who haven't read my previous posts, I have OCD myself as does my 9 year old daughter. My husband and I also have a younger daughter. We are in the Silver Spring, MD area.
