So my husband is supposed to start treatment soon, but he is concerned that he is losing too much weight. At his heaviest he was 235 and now he is down to 160. He is 57 and 5'10". Is this going to affect his treatment? He feels like crap all the time and on top of all this, has hurt is knee and has to wait forever to see a specialist. Ugh! I'm frustrated, and I know that I don't have the disease and should be supportive, but the hopelessness he is feeling is driving me insane! O.K. enough of my "poor is me" rant. Any suggestions on how I can fatten him up without fattening myself!?!

I was wondering is he on any antidepressants yet?If not you need to try to get him to talk to his dr about it.My hubby and I both agree with out the anti-d's we would not have made it thru tx..Subject: Losing too much weightTo: HepatitisCSupportGroupForDummies Date: Wednesday, July 7, 2010, 10:56 AM

Hi Dannella.

No, he's not on antidepressants yet. He is really against taking them and won't

take my advice on the matter (seems I don't know what I'm talking about 'cause I

don't have HepC.) I tried to get him on this group so he could talk to some

people who are going through the same thing, but no luck so far. He sometimes

takes the information better if I tell him I read it in this group, so I'll keep

trying.

Hi Kathy. So maybe he's not too skinny, as long as he doesn't lose anymore! I'd

like to get him up to 180 if possible, and if the heat wave ever ends, maybe

he'll feel more like eating. Good idea with the ensure or boost, I'm going to

get some today. I'm glad to hear that your hubby is trying for the second time.

My husband keeps saying that the treatment is so terrible and he is not going to

be able to do anything while on treatment. I keep telling him that plenty of

people in this forum have tried more than once and would do it again if there

was a shot they could kick the disease. Thanks again for the advice and good

luck to you and your hubby!

Hi,

I will trying for the third time in August if I can lose 10 more pounds. Weight has been found to be a very important factor in the success of treatment.

I went back to school full time the second time and just felt kinda bad the first couple of days after each shot.

I will be surprised if they will start treatment without being on an anti D, it's common practice and it's for your well being and all his loved ones, treatment has made a few people freak out and hurt or be really mean to others.

He needs to get better informed, it's not just about him, if not for my caretaker I would be dirt camping by now. I will be nine years post transplant next month and my wife has been there every step of the way.

Your husband has to change his attitude before he starts tx or he WILL have a horrible time & probable fail. I'm a non-responder, I've tried twice & I'm going for a third when my doc gets me in an upcoming study on a new tx. Every time I've tried, I worked through tx & felt fluish but that's all because I believed that I could beat this dragon. A positive attitude is very important in tx - get him on anti-d's & maybe to see a councellor. Men! Always got to prove how strong they are!SuZieP S I'm 60 yrs old & HCV+ since 1969, 2 x non-responder, with cirrhosis in ESLD (end stage liver disease)Everything I know I learned from my cat: When you're tired, nap in a sunbeam. When you're hungry, eat. When you go to the vet's. pee on your owner. Subject: Re: Losing too much weightTo: HepatitisCSupportGroupForDummies Date: Friday, July 9, 2010, 10:45 AM
