Guest guest
The whole idea of this is curious. The main aim of the SydBand group when it was set up – and I quote from the opening blurb on the home page: "Sydney & Surrounding Areas. This is a support group for those who have undertaken weight loss surgery (wls) including the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band, (Lap-Band or LapBand), BPD and other weight loss surgery.A safe place for wls patients to share our experiences & goals. It will provide practical informal information to wls, from those already on this journey. A meeting place to exchange ideas, stories, recipes, scale and non scale victories. This site will run democratically and grow with flexiblity as the needs of the group change." Well clearly the needs of the group is changing, we have members with bypasses and perhaps other forms of surgery too. The only people that are excluded from the group are those that have chosen to not be part – we are limited only by our actions, perhaps banding people dominate – but that is only as we shout loudest. Guest guest
You are right on the money there Elaine... doesn't matter which end it is coming out of, it seems to be a problem for the banded and bypassers loosing it out of one of the ends!!! And, lets face it, we are all on the same journey, for a healthier and longer life! Doesn't really matter which surgery we choose, its all about the same outcome and helping each other along the way no matter what our issues and problems. I am sure that Cath will not mind me posting this here... but I just was over at Ozband to check something in the files and saw that she had posted this web site for all WLS... http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/awls/messages I might join here and read up on what they have to say. I am very keen to learn more about bypass. After chatting to my surgeon the other week, even though everything I am doing is ok, albeit slow... I know that if ever anything happens to this little band of mine, I am probably not going to bother having another one, I will go either the sleeve or the bypass rather than struggle with a 2nd band. It appears to me that most people who have a 2nd one, don't get as good a result as with their first. However, Nic is certainly proving to me that this is not quite correct. But I do think she is working very hard to get a good result before she heads off to hula. You are now over the Wednesday hump Elaine... on the countdown to being on a weeks freedom before the new job!!!! Mel
Guest guest
We are all looking for a healthier life, what I think most of us forget is that the bypass should be used as a last resort. It does have a high mortality rate. You are in a constant state of malnutrition hence the need for diligent vitamins and minerals. And you run the risk of leakage from the areas where the bowel is joined. I have not said any of this to scare any of you, this is not an operation for the feint hearted, and needn’t be taken on a whim. The banded have different hurdles to that of the bypassed, and neither is less important than the other. I personally was so pleased when my band was put on and my Irritable bowel settled down, no more dumping, was I to be bypassed, this could be a daily occurrence. I am sure the numbers of the group will grow, as the surgeons seem to be doing more and more bypasses now. Anne -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
