Guest guest
Hi all, I watched a webinar last night and wanted to share a couple things. One the comments on the webinar was about b12 deficiency. The outcomes of low b12 can be irritability, apathy, personality change, depression, memory oss, hallucinations, violence and anxiety. I know MB12 is talked a lot about in autism, but I get the impression that there are a number of kids who could use more B12. I know for myself, I need to take quite a bit of it. Dr Greenblatt also talked about low folate and depression. I know there has been talk about cerebral folate deficiency in some kids with ASD. A lot of the ASD kids I see who are older seem to suffer from depression. He mentioned that people with celiac are twice as likely to suffer depression. 15% of Americans suffer depression and of those, 15% will eventually kill themselves. He also spoke about depression and pro-inflammatory cytokines. These cytokines create an enzyme called IDO. It breaks down trypophan and serotonin. No wonder our kids can't sleep, have trouble being happy. Another interesting point he brought up was the DSM. The DSM I, published in 1952 had 66 disorders. The DSM IV contains 365. He didn't mention what the DSM V might hold. Yet clearly, the vast majority of psychiatrists and doctors in general are more than happy with the status quo, that being let's put fancy labels on problems that people have, throw some drugs at them, and leave it at that. Anyway, wanted to share some of that. If you look on the GLP website, Greenblatt has a few recorded webinars that might be of interest to people.
