Guest guest
Thank you Anne ! It's good to be back home from home - sounds a bit weird, I know :-) I moved to Australia 5 years ago and missed my family and friends terribly. But now I have to admit that there are certain benefits in having about 17000 km between yourself and the drama (ooops, meant to say family and friends). I just started the process of applying for permanent residency. Got all of the documents etc. I need, all that's missing now is the medical exam and the IELTS. Want to wait as long as possible with the med exam because I'm trying to get rid of as much weight as possible and maybe also the reflux medication (don't want to give them any reason to think they could reject me :-). As for the IELTS: after 5 years in this wonderful country the government wants me to sit an english test. And we're not talking a short multiple choice test. NO NO NO, it's 3 hours of listening (with answering multiple choice questions), reading and writing. In the afternoon then follows a 15 minutes interview where my ability to speak in coherent sentences wil be assessed. For this pleasure I'm allowed to pay $280. A steal considering that the medical exam is $296 and takes only 1 hour. ARRRRRGH !!!! But hey, things we do for permanent residency... Oh, and I wanted you to know that I can not imagine that somebody would find your postings offensive - I really enjoy having a good laugh ! Guest guest
Well Anne, I'm always happy to improve my English - no matter how :-) As for the exams for permanent residency: I don't mind so much the $280 (compared to the overall cost it's not the world), I just think they should be able to apply some common sense when it comes to the English test... But that's not where the madness ends. I've been told that Australian Doctors who want to work in the UK have to sit the test too ! Most of them were born in Australia, went to school here, studied here and practised here for years. So who am I to complain :-) Cheers, > > , > > I am pleased you enjoy the jokes, consider them my way of > teaching you English!!!! It is a bit rude all those exams and the cost > though. > > Anne > > > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.446 / Virus Database: 268.18.11/721 - Release Date: 13/03/2007 > 4:51 PM > > > > -- > No virus found in this outgoing message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.446 / Virus Database: 268.18.11/721 - Release Date: 13/03/2007 > 4:51 PM >
