What a putz! LOL

I know its tough- I am tired of people with regular arthritis hearing about

the RA and saying " OH, I have arthritis too. But I don't need pain pills or

I suffer so bad " or comparing whatever they have to whatever I have. I just

want to smack them all. :)

But I guess even ignorant people deserve to live.

Bobbi,

I get the same kind of crap from people...usually family members!

Burns me up!! I have MS as well, although presently it's in

remission. The RA is giving me a really rough time though. I also

haven't been to a rheumy yet. I guess I've been 'avoiding' it. My

family doctor diagnosed me and that was a little over a year ago.

I just get so angry. It was bad enough when they told me I had MS. I

literally told my poor doctor off when he told me I had RA too. LOL!

I practically screamed at him, " Don't you think I have enough?! " He

had no idea how to respond & I wasn't really looking for a response.

You know? LOL!

Anyway, my mom will ask me how I'm feeling & I'll say something kind

of neutral, like I'm hurting a little & I'm tired and then she'll

start telling me all about how she bumped her hip on the kitchen

counter & how big the bruise is & how bad it hurts. Geez! I wish to

God I had a bruise on my hip from bumping it!!! Maybe then my entire

body wouldn't hurt so bad & I could actually get off my butt & do

something! LOL! I used to tell her the truth...that I was in

horrible pain & some days feel like I'm dying and that if my

headache doesn't ease up, I might just slit my wrists. She would

respond with something about a headache she had the other day & how

I was just being overdramatic and headaches aren't that bad, etc. I

gave up. The only one I talk to about how I'm really feeling is my

husband. He's very supportive & helps with the housework...he knows

when I'm having a rough time & just starts cleaning or cooking or

whatever needs done. He never complains & when I get upset & cry

because I just can't do anything, he just gives me a hug & holds me

& ask, " Did you hear me complain? I love to help you out & I know

you hurt...no big deal. It's not killing me to do some housework.

Marriage is a team effort. " I love him SO much!! :) He doesn't even

say anything when he see's me popping pills several times a day. I

know he worries, but more than anything he is just here for me. You

know?

Anyway, I'm with you! People have an amazing way of ticking me off.

LOL!

Lynn,

I have worked full-time up until a few months ago...it was a major

struggle! I have lost 2 jobs in the past 3 months because of the

RA...I just can't go. People are so insensitive!!

Obviously those people don't have a clue & must think you're talking

about 'arthritis' not RA.

I have an interview this morning for a job...I'm scared to death!

Not because I can't normally do the job, but because I have no idea

how I'm going to go to work every day, etc. And how do you tell a

prospective employer, " Hey...I have RA & might miss a lot of work

now & then. " ??? LOL!

If anyone ever says, " Oh I heard blah blah died of RA... " I just decided I'm

going to look them right in the eye and say, " I know, I know. My doctor says

I'll probably die sometime next week. Is there anything of mine you want? "

Cassy,

I honestly don't know. What burns me up most? I loved my job that

I'd had for over a year!! I was 6 days shy of qualifying for FMLA &

came down with pneumonia...my family doctor told me illnesses like

pneumonia are not uncommon with diseases like I have. The HR woman

(who is a really nasty, power-tripping witch!) wouldn't allow my

doctor to even fill out the FMLA paperwork...but, she wanted my

doctor to give her info that he can not legally give because of the

newer HEPA laws! Ugh!! I was so frustrated! My DH wanted me to

contact the labor board or an attorney...but, you know, I'm just so

dang tired. I couldn't even get up enough strength to do that. LOL!

The 2nd job I lost was technically a 'temp' job. It was a lot of fun

though & at least it was an income. But, I became so exhausted &

then my migraine became debilitating...I actually quit the temp job

early because I didn't think it was fair for them with my missing

work, etc. Plus, I was afraid they would end up firing me...I didn't

want ANOTHER termination on my job record! Ugh!

My interview went great this morning! I'm 100% positive he's going

to hire me. It's part-time...only up to 36 hours per week. It's

working at a pet store (imagine me - with my 8 animals - LOL). I get

FREE pet food for my babies...and I'm talking Iams, Eukanuba, Eagle

Pak...the good stuff!! That will come in super handy when our GSP's

start breeding!! :) So, I'm kind of excited about that. He said I

would have to occasionally lift up to 55 pounds above my head, but

that there would be other people to help if it was too much. I hope

so!! Right now I don't think I could lift 25 pounds above my

head...not for too long anyway!! LOL!

The weird part is, I've always had 'professional' jobs. This is a

definite switch for me...but maybe just what I need. There's no

attendance policy & if I'm sick, I stay home (according to the

manager). Also, no drug testing...which is really great with my new

preferred pain remedy. I'm honestly hoping to get a better remedy

after I see my rheumy, but for now it's all I have...so...

That's the other thing...if I have a doctor's appointment or

something, as long as I let him know 24 hours in advance, it's no

big deal. How cool is that when you have something like this? Sounds

perfect...but you know what they say about that! LOL!

Dear Bobbi,

That really was an insensitive statement that woman made!! I think

between us all we could compile a book of insensitive comments and

people! There is a woman I know who told me several months ago she

didn't understand why I was using a cane since I bowl. I may not bowl

well, but it IS a night out, and it is only 5 steps to throw the ball!

Then a couple of weeks ago she saw me taking my pain pills (we go out

for snacks after bowling) and she said " If you didn't take so many

pills maybe you wouldn't be sick!! " Several weeks ago a man at church,

when they announced I was going to have surgery, said " Oh, there you go

again, trying to get more attention! "

Good luck with your rheumy appointment, and don't worry, things will

NOT be as bad as the jerk said!

Peace,

Judi

Talk about insensitive comments. The ones you mention are

horrible. I don't think the people would still be standing if they

had said that to me! LOL That is awful!

Judi,

That was a VERY anti-Christian thing for that man to say...in a

Church no less!

The other one, the incredible RUDE & ignorant woman...I'm afraid I

would have to point out her ignorance to her. LOL! But, I have a

tendency to tell it like it is...unfortunately, I've managed to hurt

a few people's feelings in the process & I hate that, but when

you're being ridiculed because of something you can't possibly

control or you are a witness to someone being belittled...sorry...I

will not just humbly disappear to lick my wounds! All it takes is

for people to give 5 seconds of thought...if they still don't 'get

it', Good Lord, just ask!! Assumptions are evil. :) And myself,

with my 'big' mouth...I would have looked at her & asked exactly how

it was any of her business?!

Peace to you too!
