Guest guest
HI All... I knw its been a while since I have posted. The past 3 months have been like one long nightmare that I can't wake up from. For those curious...the post on Nola.com was mine. Since the post on NOLA.com, I have been back to New Orleans one other time, to try and salvage some other items. Most of what was salvagable before had either been stolen from our apartment or when the apartment company came into take out the sheetrock, they threw it into piles in the middle of the room, and broke mostly everything else. They also left the apartment unlocked, so looters had a free for all and stole most everything else that could be worth anything at all. We left New Orleans with little more than the clothes on our backs...as we had been told to evacute so many times in the past few years...to only come back 2 or 3 days later. So we figured this would be another trip for nothing. So we put a few things in the van, along with all my wifes scrapbooks, and headed off for Houston. As all of ya'll saw on TV...the worst happened and you know the rest of the story. What is so hard to explain is how all of this affects you. How it affects everything you do from that day forward. How you look at life and those around you. It makes you realize that all the possessions in the world don't mean much at all to you. I am just happy that my wife and I made it out, we are alive, and making it.We are also so blessed to have a much larger scope of friends and people that care about our welfare than we knew about. Also during this time, my Bichon Frise had her second litter of puppies, 4 females and 2 males. They will be seven weeks old tomorrow. They are getting their first shots the Monday after Thanksgiving, and then hopefully, they will be going off to their new homes the following few days. I am going to start working for the Spring ISD next week as I have my orientation tomorrow. So hopefully I can start to feel like I am contributing again. My arthritis has not been bothering me too much...I have some bad days and good day like normal. I did injure my left knee, and right ankle in the hustle of getting out of harms way...but a visit to the orthopedic doc and some rest and meds solved that. I also am following Doctors orders and wearing my knee brace everyday, and am on Stage II of the South Beach Diet...again..per doctors orders. I find it easy to follow, and I don't miss the things I use to crave anymore. I even turned down deep dish Chicago Pizza last week...real Chicago Pizza...a member of the staff where my wife works brought back 3 from Chicago...and had them set out for everyone on a day that I came by to have lunch with my wife. We sat and ate our salads..and I didn't even try to even sneak a bite!!! Thanks to all that asked about us and that have prayed for us!!! Guest guest
Larry it is great to hear from you. I was really starting to worry about you and your family. I emailed you shortly after Katrina but my messages were sent back saying your box was full. I was so happy that found that article in the paper that you had written. I cannot imagine the nightmare that you and thousands others have been through. I know the devastation we've seen on TV doesn't begin to portray all that has happened to so many. But you survived the worse natural disaster in our country's history, and that is what matters. Possession can be replaced, although I know the sentimental things can't be. Hopefully those scrapbooks that took had all the irreplaceable pictures. I can imagine that although it's disgusting that looters stole from you, it's heartwarming to know how many others care. I hope your new life there is a good one and that you like your new job. Congrats on the puppies! Keep up the good work with that diet. It's been a good one for many people. I'm glad your arthritis is behaving. a On Nov 17, 2005, at 1:02 PM, Larry Holmack wrote: > HI All... > > I knw its been a while since I have posted.
