Guest guest
Wow karen that sounds pretty hard on you, now i feel a bit of a drama queen as i think that i am just getting a cold (again) so was feeling very drained. thanks heaps for your reply and take care mel [ ] Re: from mel Mel: I've noticed that my RA cycle seems to be that I am in a " flare " for about 3 weeks out of the month. I tend to have about 5-7 days where my symptoms are less prominent and the pain eases up a bit. I will sometimes sleep 16-18 hours out of the day during this time, if I can. I think it's my body's way of trying to recover from the drain a flare puts on my system. Guest guest
hi tammy thank you for sharing your story it really does help. i'm a single mum during the week (hubby is in the army) but my little guy is good so i'll make sure to rest. ned is quite happy playing with his trains i think i'm getting sick again so am swallowing a clove of garlic each morning (phew)! mel [ ] Re: from mel Hi Mel! I'm tired 75% of the day when not in a flare and 110% when I am in a flare. When I think back to when I was a child I remember people calling me lazy because I was tired all the time.I even grew up thinking I WAS lazy because of being tired all the time.I have always worked.I worked 3 jobs at 1 time when the children were small (was a single mom)so I can't believe I let myself think that for so long.It was quite a relief to find out I had RA because I then had a reason for being so tired all the time. You better believe I went aruond telling all those people that called me lazy too.My dad felt the worse because he has seen how bad I have gotten and feels bad not for not believing me when I was little. Get LOTS of rest it realy helps. It is the hardest for me but helps the most.Take Care!-Tammy---- In , " P Wheeler " <pmwheeler@o...> wrote: > hi guys > just wondering when you get the fatigue? > i am really tired today but my hands and everything have been feeling great for the past couple of days so i think i'm coming out of the flare period > does this make sense or do you get the tiredness when you're in the flare period > thanks in advance > mel > >

I have had RA since 2002 in my hands and have never felt fatigued. Kathy
Guest guest
Mel, if it is RA and someone else can diagnose it sooner (and accurately), it's to your advantage. Did your current rheumatologist take any x-rays? Do an anti-CCP test? I was just asking about medications out of curiosity. Mostly to try to understand what your rheumatologist is thinking. It's a bad spot to be in: you don't want to take RA DMARDs if it isn't RA, but, if it is RA, the sooner you start a DMARD, the better. RA isn't always easy to diagnose in the early stages, so your physician is in a difficult situation, too. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Mel, there is no one test that will prove that you have RA; however, there are certain investigations that, along with your clinical presentation, can help make the diagnosis. The anti-CCP test measures anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies. Along with RF, it can help a physician decide whether a patient has RA. A positive anti-CCP test is more specific for RA than the RF test. X-rays are taken to see if any changes or damage characteristic of RA is present and also as a baseline for future reference. MRI and ultrasound are also used. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go!
