Guest guest
Hey !I hope you're having a great time in Hawaii (not that I'm not completely jealous or anything! Just sayin')I think since I have shoes that are well worn in, I'll use those for my bike as well with the cages. it's a good thing everything is adjustable on the bike - I tried to get on it after my husband and my feet couldn't reach the pedals! I have the shortest legs in the universe...I have Cathe's spin bike video on my list of workouts to try, plus I have some audio training mp3s from the Gatorade G-Fit series that I downloaded, and my husband found some on youtube that he liked. He was asking, though -- are there any video workouts where you can drop the music track to add your own? I know you and Judy use your own music sometimes, is that your own personal workout? I have a hard time staying motivated on my own without some kind of external "coach," but it would be nice to add my own tunes. Thanks!Namiko To: exercisevideos Sent: Tuesday, January 17, 2012 8:31 PM Subject: Re: It's been a while! Plus questions about spin bikes Namiko, I was wondering about you! Thanks for the update! I'm very sorry to hear you were laid off and I know that would put me into a depression. HUGS. I hope you can find work again soon and will keep you in my thoughts! I love my spin bike, and yes the first couple of rides will result in a sore bum afterward. However, after that you will be just fine. At the gym I like to clip in but on my own spin bike at home I'm fine with the cages. My cycling shoes aren't very comfortable. If you do any spinning workout videos, please review them! With RPM, great to hear from you! Love the bikeI would look at bike store or performance bikes bike nashbar online for the following 1) I use biking shorts when I bike outside for long periods. you could pick up a a couple. They call it gaining you "saddle" in that in awhile a short hour ride on seat won't bother you 2) you can buy gel seats to cover the bikeas far as shoes you can buy cycling shoes. again I would go to bike store but does you bike have clips or shoe cages? I would get clip pedals and clip into your bike. this way you can use the full pedal motion (the pull up) bike shoes are lite but have solid hard soles so you can transfer your power to pedal easier.more laterjudy in DC To: exercisevideos Sent: Tuesday, January 17, 2012 3:34 PM Subject: It's been a while! Plus questions about spin bikes I can't remember the last time I posted here, but hello again! I got laid off in July, and while you'd think that would make working out easier (more off time), I've found myself with LESS time, because now I have no excuse not to do all the errands, shopping, laundry, cooking, more time with my son (we cut back on his daycare), and so on. I found my iron and figured out how to use it! (sheesh) I think there was a bit of mild depression in there somewhere, too, but we're budgeting and figuring out how to make our household expenses work on one salary, so I don't feel like such a leech. In the meantime, my husband is going through a rough patch health wise, as he developed a bone spur in his heel and that resulted in a very painful tendon injury around his ankle. So no running for him. But what this meant was, we got a spin bike, thanks to my mother in law and her very generous Christmas money. We got a LeMond spin bike, the yellow classic one, used but impressively refurbished, for around $400 including delivery. Which leads to my questions about the seat on those things - why are they so uncomfortable?! Does anyone have any recommendations on seat cushions? Men and women have obviously different needs in that department, so would we be able to get seat that would help both of us? At the moment I'm thinking I have more problems with the seat than my husband. Also, is there such a thing as a "shell" shoe with clips? My brother, who used to be an avid cyclist, told that there is a very light, almost Vibram-y type of shoe out there that's basically just a covering for your feet. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I use regular sneakers and had no issues but my husband has it in his head that he needs a proper spin shoe with clips. Thanks in advance for any insight into this as I've never used a real spin bike before. Now I HAVE to take a shower - I'm getting back into working out on a regular schedule and just finished Turbo Kick round 40, and I stink! Have a good rest of the week everyone! Guest guest
Ah, I've never taken a spin class before. Like ever. *sheepish*I'm so bad I didn't know the difference between a spin bike and an exercise bike. (I do now, of course.)I spent some time making a workout playlist for the bike, which is always fun. So now I just have to use it!Namiko To: exercisevideos Sent: Friday, January 20, 2012 3:41 PM Subject: Re: It's been a while! Plus questions about spin bikes- Judy Hi Namiko! The spinning videos are really nice when you don't want to think about it and just do it. However, the best rides I've had are the ones I've made myself simply because1) I am motivated by my own music 2) I like being creative and designing my own ride/classYou've taken a spin class at the gym before, right? You'll want to pick songs that fit the drill and more than likely you'll want to vary your drills. So for a sprint you'll want music with a higher bpm like most techno/ rave type stuff. For hills, a slower bpm - lots of rap works for this, flat road can be whatever.. Steely Dan.. My favorite rides I've done were all Bee Gees / Andy Gibb and all KISS. I also made a fun Moody Blues ride. Have fun! I hate spinning at the gym but love it at home! (though I do like looking at the cute biker butts in class.......) more than likely they are spd clips (most used for mountain bikes) but if you can remove the pedal and take it with you to the shop. Local bike stores are generally very customer oriented as they have to compete with online stuff To: "exercisevideos " <exercisevideos > Sent: Thursday, January 19, 2012 11:26 AM Subject: Re: It's been a while! Plus questions about spin bikes- Judy Thanks for the advice, Judy! I was hoping you'd give me some tips and I wasn't disappointed. I think I'll go with bike shorts for now and see if that'll help, instead of buying a gel seat online. The ones I've seen have all gotten mixed reviews. As far as the pedals go, when I looked at my spin bike, it definitely has a toe cage, but when you flip the pedal over, it looks like there are clips? Is that right?? Man, I had no idea that it would be this complicated. It's not like buying a yoga mat or step risers, that's for sure! Again, I think we'll just head on over to the bike place (there are a couple nearby) and look at our options. Thanks again!Namiko To: "exercisevideos " <exercisevideos > Sent: Tuesday, January 17, 2012 3:41 PM Subject: Re: It's been a while! Plus questions about spin bikes great to hear from you! Guest guest
Hi Namiko! All the videos I have you're stuck with their music. When I use my own music its just me, my iron horse, and candle light (and sometimes a cat) Ah, I've never taken a spin class before.
